Lucy, an aspiring Celestial Wizard, becomes a friend and ally to powerful wizards Natsu, Gray, and Erza, who are part of the (in)famous wizard guild, Fairy Tail.
Lucy, a 17 year old girl, sets out on journey to become a full-fledged wizard and joins the strongest and most (in) famous guild FAIRY TAIL where she meets Natsu, Happy, Gray and Erza, who treat her more like family than friends. This epic series takes us through all the dangers that the members of fairy tail face and eventually overcome through mutual love and friendship.
Originally, I was going to give this show a 3 out of 10, but given the current score, I might as well drop it a little. When I started watching it, I kind of enjoyed it...until it became very clear from continuing on what this show was going to be.
This show became nothing more than shallow, pandering drivel that only knows how to throw boobs and butts in your face...oh and the power of friendship bullsh*t just to add to the very things I hate about anime.
Characters are incredibly one-dimensional and this show has WAY too many characters to develop any of them for sh*t. When the main leads do nothing but try to humor us with weak gags and shout the most generic lines ever in shonen anime, it becomes pretty much impossible to care/relate/sympathize with them.
Story is weak and often repetitive and each arc always ends the same with the typical Nakama power because the writer doesn't know how to write a conclusion to save his life. It didn't work for Sailor Moon, so how could it possibly work in this show?
Another gripe I have against this anime is the absence of any real threat or stakes, as characters will often be perfectly fine after the stupid Nakama power and nothing is ever really lost. Erza being brought back after death and Lisanna being returned to her own dimension (After we were shown/told she died off-screen) shows that there is nothing to feel concerned about, making the story feel empty and pointless to watch.
Overall, Fairy Tail cements the things I hate when looking for a shonen anime to watch. I sound like an pretentious jerk for this review, but I ended up wasting so much of my time hoping this anime was actually going to get good, but it didn't. I wanted to like it, but I will not force myself if it doesn't entertain me.
Anyone who hasn't read the manga can definitely agree Fairy Tail is charming, funny, but does contain its series moments. If you didn't know any better you would think Fairy Tail was children's show, but I wouldn't really recommend this show for younger audiences as it does have its darker moments.
The plot revolves around a girl named Lucy who joins a mage guild and makes friends along the way, growing stronger as she takes on tasks (although her growth seems to be very slow, which is in my opinion good because a lot of anime has the characters growing super strong way too fast, and it's not really realistic).
I would highly suggest this anime for those who enjoy fantasy oriented anime and for those who dislike anime that has way too much blood and violence for their tastes (I fall into that category so my anime list is a bit limited).
The plots are great and instead of the usual "stand here and talk for 20 minutes before fighting" that seems to be so annoyingly abundant in other anime like Naruto, fight scenes don't seem to be dragged out on purpose just to make the episodes long enough to fill an allotted time- slot.
Some characters do sort of wear on you at times (namely Natsu whose personality in the anime reminds me that of Naruto's), but the genuinely touching moments that unfold throughout the anime in various episodes makes up for it and you grow to love the characters very fast. This is one of the few, rare anime that actually has me emotionally invested in the characters.
10/10 for me.
