A team of U.S. archaeologists unearths an ancient pyramid buried deep beneath the Egyptian desert. As they search the pyramid's depths, they become hopelessly lost in its dark and endless catacombs. Searching for a way out, they become desperate to seek daylight again. They come to realize they aren't just trapped, they are being hunted.
In times of turbulence and confusion in Egypt, an American team of archaeologists is digging a three-side pyramid in the desert. The engineer Zahir sends his robot to explore the interior while the archaeologists Nora and her father Holden; the video producer Sunni; and the cameraman Fitzie record and analyze the image. However they have to leave the site due to the political instability but out of blue, the expensive robot vanishes inside the pyramid. Amir K convinces Corporal Shadid to give two hours for them to seek out the robot. When they are in the interior, the floor collapses and they fall 30 m down. Soon they learn that the place is a maze full of traps and a creature is hunting them down. Will they succeed to escape?
A group of archaeologists & film makers enter a recently discovered three-sided pyramid, buried in the Egyptian desert, in order to retrieve a $3m robot when they lose communication with it. They find themselves lost & in a deadly fight for survival. James Buckley (The Inbetweeners) provides some light comic relief but overall this found footage style movie is pretty tense, claustrophobic & does have a view effectively horrific moments. It certainly could have been better but personally I found it to be reasonably good.
If Found Footage Films Make You Physically Sick, This One Will Only Make You Half Sick. The Movie Fluctuates From FF to Standard Cinema On and Off and May be (hopefully) a Sign That the Most Irritating Fad in Recent Film History has Finally Worn Out It's Welcome.
The Acting Here is Atrocious. The Story is Familiar and Pedestrian. The Creatures are Scary Enough and the Main Creature (Anubis) is Genuinely Frightening. There Are a Number of Jump Scares and One in Particular will Knock You Out. That is if You Haven't Fallen Asleep, Comatose by the Inane Dialog and Historical Explanations, Line Readings at Their Worst.
Overall, the Horror Stuff is OK and the Movie is Worth a Watch for Horror Completists and B-Movie Fans. But One has to Wonder Where the Over 6 Million Dollar Budget Went. Certainly Not On Screen. Maybe the Cast Parties Had More Life Than This Dusty Ditty.
The paucity of new ideas is evident from the opening crawl.
