A mysterious diver hiding in Amsterdam's canal system embarks on a rampage of gruesome murders, terrifying city officials and leaving few clues for the city's best detective, who doesn't suspect that both his new girlfriend and twelve-year-old daughter may be closer than he is to finding the killer.

I've seen both the original Dutch version and the English dubbed version (I think the original actors did the English voices. Their horrible Dutch accents certainly leave no question about this flick's origin).
This is one of the best movies ever made, period. It has extremely clever cinematographical moments and the plot, though over the top, is consistent and amusing. Sure, it's your basic whacked-out homicidal maniac kill-fest, but it's done in a really pleasant way. No time or money is wasted on disgusting blood soaked special effects, yet each murder hits you just right.
The ending (**SPOILERS AHEAD**) where the deformed scuba diver shoots himself through the head with his harpoon is bone chilling, leaving you with the distinct taste of the original "Frankenstein" in your mouth. I actually felt sorry for the guy.
Why are continental films so damn poor. Don't they have film schools there? Amsterdamned is just another example of this. Please quit now before it gets out of hand, you've already inflicted Paul Verhoeven on us - enough is enough.
Only a cut version of Amsterdamned was available in the UK before its DVD release. The tape is rated BBCF 18. The UK-DVD by Nouveaux Pictures on the other hand, which is rated BBFC 15 btw, is uncut. a5c7b9f00b
