Irish Commandant Pat Quinlan leads a stand off with troops against French and Belgian Mercenaries in the Congo during the early 1960s.
In 1961, the UN sends an Irish peacekeeper troop commanded by Commandant Pat Quilan to Katanga, in Congo, to protect the inhabitants of the mining town of Jadotville in the beginning of a civil war. Meanwhile the UN advisor Dr. Conor Cruise O'Brien launches a military attack named Operation Morthor against the French and Belgian mercenaries. Soon there is a reprisal from the mercenaries and Quilana and his men are left under the siege of a huge Katangese and mercenary troops. Will the Irish soldiers resist to the attack?
This is a great war flick. The acting is fine, the characters believable, and the treatment of an actual historical event close enough for government work. I believe the raft of negative reviews, which are so repetitive that I suspect collusion, is a result of people who don't like to see the UN in general and the French in particular cast in the bad light that they deserve for their role in this political and military fiasco. But see the movie and judge for yourself. Keep in mind though that this is a war picture about essentially one battle, or one episode. It rightly does not depict the broader conflict.
I have only just watched this movie. However, it was very impressive. As a former member of a conspiracy, I can affirm that "they" do exist. Prior to hearing about "The Siege of Jadotville" last night, I had no knowledge of the history depicted in this movie. The lack of historical references intrigued me, and as a former conspirator, I enjoy finding new cover-ups. Also, coming from a former conspirator, such as I am, I'd say that, as far as cover-ups go, this cover-up was very successful. Conspiracy deniers who might dispute my statement, above, concerning the success of this cover-up, I would ask one question (maybe two questions, but, one question is sufficient for the point); "What really happened to Dag Hammarskjöld?"
There it is! This movie is well scripted, well acted, well directed, well produced, and it is well hidden! It is a continuation of the cover-up. Why do you suppose the USA will not release the records relating to Dag Hammarskjöld? Why is the UN general assembly expected to pass a resolution today, December 6, 2016, seeking to reaffirm its "responsibility to pursue the full truth concerning the conditions and circumstances resulting in the... of Dag Hammarskjöld and of the members of the party accompanying him"? FYI, That quote is from www.theguardian.com news story Saturday December 3, 2016.
