Rell is an ordinary man living an ordinary life until a kitten is dropped on his front porch, and he doesn't know that his life is going to change. Soon later, his kitten Keanu is abducted by gangsters and him and his cousin, Clarence, go out on an ultimate adventure to get Keanu back.
Deeply hurt after getting dumped by his girlfriend, underachiever Rell feels rejected and alone, however, when an adorable, L.A. drug kingpin's fluffy, tiny little kitten ends up on his doorstep, he will miraculously recover from his break-up in the furry embrace of his new-found feline friend: Keanu. As Rell and his cousin Clarence bond with the kitten, they will inevitably become inseparable, however, when Keanu disappears, the two cousins will have no other choice but to comb the suburbs of Los Angeles, deep into the notorious 17th Street Blips gang territory who seem to have taken Keanu under their wing. In the end, is a new gangsta persona and a pair of badass nicknames enough to outsmart Cheddar, the gang's infamous leader, and his team of itchy-fingered gunslingers?
I will be saying 'Keanu, Gangsta kitten' for a long time now. Love Keagen Michael Key, even more now. Kitten is adorable. Action was spot on, not over the top. I am curious if Keagen used what he learned from whose line is it anyway during filming. He nailed this role. I love that shelter cats were used then adopted. The kind of movie to see again and again. I hope there will be a Keanu 2 movie.. It's hard writing without telling things you just have to see. Keanu steals the show,. But not so much that you don't know what's going on. . This movie hits the ground running and keeps on running. Classic yet unique action comedy movie that meets adorable. Keanu, gangsta kitten.. It's catchy. . I could watch a series of movies based around Keanu, Key and Peele.
So glad I didn't pay to see this mess in theaters. I love key & Peele's sketch comedy and throw in the always beautiful Nia Long for good measure and you have my attention; plus, I'm a cat lover to boot. All that said, as others have noted this thinly plotted violent comedy is just a series of sketches that drag on way too long. This would have made a funny 30 minute special episode. But at 100 minutes, it's just one over-long scene after another. Yes, there are other things Key and Peele are trying to do in addition to the laughs. But a comedy is first and foremost judged on being funny, not a chore to sit through.
Let's just forget this first (and hopefully not the last) feature film outing from this duo and remember them for a great TV show and fitting send off for Pres. Obama.
If there was a strong enough story to latch the jokes on to, Keanu might have worked. As it stands, it reeks of a grossly underdeveloped sketch extended to feature length.
