His young biographer, Etienne Boisset, decides to have revenge on Vidocq's death and takes the investigation on... "Vidocq" perfectly shows up how good European cinematography truly is. I enjoyed unique story, unique photography, and visual effects. This movie is one of a kind! "Vidocq" is A MUST SEE movie if you like this genre! I am quite puzzled of reading other reviews, this is in my opinion quite an interesting movie. Surely there's a lot of room for improvement, yet it managed to focus my attention all along. Darkness, clair-obscur and colors ... Sure, the angles are unusual but what about the light ? One thing or another borrowed to Jean-Pierre Jeunet maybe, anyway the details are there. Too much detail ? Probably. It lacks a further perspective, it may look somehow confuse. The acting is not bad at all, and the plot, though linear, saves the surprise of the identity of the alchemist till the end (no spoiler here, don't worry). I hope another movie could use some of the 'spirit' of this one, with a little more distance from the scene especially for fight scenes. I think this movie contributes to open new doors in French cinema. 9/10. a5c7b9f00b
