After a meteor shower around the world, the governments learn that it is actually an alien invasion and organize counter-attacks. In Los Angeles, the Marine Sergeant Michael Nantz is ready to retire after a great trauma in the past when he lost all the men under his command in a mission. However, his platoon is assigned to bring the civilians that are sheltered in the Police Department, in an area dominated by the aliens, back to forward operating base (F.O.B.) before the bombs drop on the city. Sgt. Nantz assists 2nd Lieutenant William Martinez and they have to accomplish their mission within three hours. The marines meet few civilians and survivors from other commandos and when they are ready to fly to the base, the helicopter with the wounded marines is shot down and crashes. Now the marines need to reach the base with the civilians through the destroyed streets and highways using a bus. Along their journey, the marines learn how to kill the invaders but only a few of them survive. When the mission is accomplished, Sgt. Nantz and the survivors decide to destroy the alien communication center and consequently their airborne force.
Los Angeles and other cities around the world are being bombarded by meteors that seem to be slowing down once they hit the earth's atmosphere. The earth is suddenly being invaded by space aliens that have landed off the shore of LA, and who begin killing everybody along the beach. The military is ordered into action. Marine Staff Sergeant Nantz (Aaron Eckhart), who was about to retire, is reassigned to a new platoon. The platoon, flown by chopper to the forward operating base at Santa Monica Airport, is being led by a new 2nd Lt. Martinez (Ramon Rodriguez). They are sent on a mission to rescue some civilians who are trapped at the police station within alien territory. They only have 3 hours to complete their mission and get out before the Air Force bombs that zone.
I'm not sure what other people were watching but I was watching a very entertaining alien invasion movie called Battle: Los Angeles.
All I keep reading and hearing is that this movie does not have a great story and that its just like every other alien invasion movie. So what? How much a story do you expect from an alien invasion? The story is that we are being invaded and we have to defend our civilization. Period. Go watch a drama movie if you're looking for a perfect story. If you're looking for a great action packed movie then Battle: Los Angeles is a must see for you.
I went into the theater expecting to see aliens blowing everything up, and for humans to attack back with everything we got. I got just that. The movie was loaded with awesome visuals, sounds, and excellent acting. Yes if you look at the cast you might not like some of the names, for example.. Ne-Yo, but he was very well casted for an excellent role is this movie. Michelle Rodriquez and Aaron Eckhart did a awesome job like most of their other movies.
I rated this movie 8 out of 10 stars because of one reason. I would of much enjoyed this movie more if they would of shown more of the entire military fighting off this invasion instead of just a group of marines. I'm sure if we were getting invaded by aliens we would have all the branches rolling in for combat. Don't get me wrong I loved watching the Marines kick ass throughout the entire movie and obviously the first ones in would be the Marines but to make a perfect war movie, it would of been more proper to put our entire military into the movie.
All in all, this movie was absolutely entertaining. If you're ready for some action, then do not hesitate to go see this movie. Critics should really give this movie much more credit then given. I'm a huge war movie fan and sci-fi. I love Aliens, Avatar, District 9, and Independence Day. This movie is similar in its ways and also different. I would absolutely rate the action in this movie up with those titles.
People that made this movie should be arrested, i felt like standing up and leaving on the first 3 minutes of movie. The director of this movie gave the camera to a monkey on crack, 98% of the movie is shot in super closeup zoom, and with only one camera, so if you wanna have a massive headache, go watch this movie, the camera moves so much that it's hard for your brain to focus on anything. ### (spoiler: The only scenes your brain can see are the ones in the trailer). ### I know this is all a cheap way of saving costs on props and location, but the director should watch the final movie before releasing it, would have saved us the time and money. There is no story to it, just feels like a bad computer game, played by someone that's not really good. Just get yourself and PS3 and some first person shooter game and i guarantee you will have more fun with it. Don't waste your time like i did...
Unfortunately, screenwriter Christopher Bertolini has given Eckhart and Liebesman a story so riddled with war-movie cliches that it contains almost nothing else.
