Trigun takes place in the distant future on a deserted planet. Vash the Stampede is a gunfighter with a legend so ruthless that he has a $$60,000,000,000 bounty on his head. Entire towns evacuate at the rumor of his arrival. However, the real Vash the Stampede is not the same man that rumor portrays him to be. The enigmatic and conflicted lead character in Trigun is actually more heroic in nature; as well as a complete and utter idiot at times.
Vash the Stampede is the most infamous outlaw on the planet Gunsmoke and with a 60 billion double dollar price on his head the most sought after!
I just got into Trigun this summer when it was being shown on adult swim. I caught a few episodes and they were all very good but the main thing I liked about Trigun was the mystery. I was totally drawn to all of the characters especially Vash. I wanted to know why the series was titled Trigun. Did Vash have some sort of triple barrel gun? I hated the fact that I could'nt see the story develop from the first episode so I rented the entire series. I still haven't seen the whole thing yet but I am amazed about how this series questions the human soul. How can a man who is quite powerful and wanted dead by many go through life without having to kill one of his enemies?
This series is great. Its funny but the humor is there so you don't feel like a terrible person after watching Vash the Stampede, behave like a total saint in a world more violent and Dangerous than the one you and I live in. This is a Story about a man who wants to make his world a better place and all he does is help people.
I almost done with the series but I wish I was'nt. I still am allured by the mystery of the whole thing, but more that anything I want to know what happens to Vash and Knives in the end. Will he eventually have to kill? How will he solve his problems with his greater enemies, without killing them?
I have always been a lover of stories that make you think after you either read or watch them. Stories that make you ask yourself questions about life and what you are doing with yours. If you are like me then I would recommend that you watch this series, because it very my well be the greatest anime series.
This is definitely one of the Anime series I would suggest to those looking for a good series. (It is also one I watch every month.)
Unlike the previous reader, I prefer the latter episodes to the beginning. The beginning gives you the intro to the characters, and hints that there is more to this Vash character then we are seeing. It draws you in and makes you want to hurry and place the next DVD in the player, who cares about food or sleep, must watch! Once it (and yourself) gets past the silly face comedy, you learn that there is some dark past haunting Vash. It has to have the comedic bits to help defuse just what a terrible situation Vash has to deal with. The stories are great and the characters likable or just plain awesome.
Personally, I love tragic comedy. The only spoiler I will give is that it does have a happy ending for Vash, (not a romantic one as some would prefer between Meryl,) where Vash is able to realize what HIS beliefs are and how to live.
