Jagga Jasoos is great idea and brave try of a movie making and cinema for Bollywood.
This movie starts of with a pretty high note... 1st act of the movie is pretty good... it sucks you right into the movie...
In the 2nd act the movie started to slow down and it gets boring at sometimes or you can say fatigued with every thing going on in a same stylized manner, it doesn't change for the sake of the movie...the end of the 2nd act is somewhat good and entertaining..
Third act of this film will totally took you out of the movie.... it just bad because it just stretched and poorly explained and doesn't connect to the audiences watching...
Cinematography is amazing in the movie... every shot looks like paintings.... the music is fantastic... Pritam did a great job again... Acting is phenomenal in this movie, Ranbir Kapoor and Saswata Chatterjee both were fantastic... Katrina Kaif is also good to watch in the film... The musical approach to the film is lovely to watch....The characters were well developed at best, the relation between Ranbir and Saswata is great..
With all that the movie falters in execution hence directing.... 1st act is fantastic 2nd and third act is pretty average... Script and the writing is good though but the movie should have 20 min shorter it felt long and stretched unnecessarily... The song 'Galti se Mistake' is not needed in the movie it was forced.....A couple of visual effects were badly done....
In the end Jagga Jassos tried to be a great unique original movie like Barfi but fails all the way from the middle....The Movie looked beautiful but its a mess inside.... 6/10.......
We often complain that no experimental film is made in Bollywood.Those of us who really look forward to out- of-the box films should not give Jagga Jasoos a miss.Kudos to director Anurag Basu. He made a film which deserves applause.Not everyone has the guts to work on such a unique idea.Jagga Jasoos begins in a serious tone but eventually slips into a humorous & never-seen-before treatment of film- making where props & backgrounds keep shuffling setting the mood of story making you glued to the screen.Set in the backdrop of Purulia Arms Drop Case the film takes us to the dark world of illegal arms trade but yes in its own style.The immediate scenes following the arms-drop are several news room debates & TV anchor screaming at their loudest. Only one word that symphonies like a chorus is Purulia Purulia. From this very moment you are introduced to the quintessential theme of the film which is Music. Here the characters communicate to each other not in a normal tone but with some added tune.The protagonist Jagga (Ranbir Kapoor) is a stammer.His father (Saswata Chatterjee) teaches him to express his thought via songs.So Jagga sings, Jagga dances yet he investigates & solves cases.Three cases solved by Jagga is shown following a Comic book adventure style.Thus from Manipur to Shundi in distant Africa the viewers are taken to the adventurous journey of Jagga who looks for his lost father which also unfolds the bigger mesh of arms trade spread all over the world. In short Jagga Jasoos is a Cinematic treat.Though many would not like the film for its different take.The investigation process could be shown in a more organized way.Ranbir Kapoor shone again after Barfi.Katrina played her part well.Special mention is to be made for Saswata Chatterjee & Saurav Shukla.Finally it's the editor, cinematographer & DOP who collectively own the film.Some chasing scenes in the exotic Africa really give a feel of Comic book Adventure.Only flaw of the film is its length.The film could be easily 20 to 30 minutes shortened.At a certain point repeated communication through songs becomes monotonous.Apart from these goofs Jagga Jasoos is a brilliant approach which should be watched.
