One thousand years after cataclysmic events forced humanity's escape from Earth, Nova Prime has become mankind's new home. Legendary General Cypher Raige returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old son, Kitai. When an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai's craft, they crash-land on a now unfamiliar and dangerous Earth. As his father lies dying in the cockpit, Kitai must trek across the hostile terrain to recover their rescue beacon. His whole life, Kitai has wanted nothing more than to be a soldier like his father. Today, he gets his chance. In the future, Earth becomes inhabitable and mankind moves to Nova Prime. However, aliens try to conquer Nova Prime but are defeated by the Rangers under the command of General Cypher Raige. The aliens bring the predator Ursas to hunt down the humans attracted by their fear and Raige develops the fearless ghosting technique to defeat them. On the same day that Raige returns home, his estranged son Kitai Raige is not advanced to the Ranger position in the academy. Raige promises his wife that he will travel in his last assignment before retirement and she convinces him to bring Kitai with him. When their spacecraft is damaged by an asteroid storm, she crashes on Earth and only Raige and Kitai survive. Raige breaks both legs and Kitai needs to cross the hostile and dangerous planet to retrieve the beacon and save their lives. Will Smith should do what he does best- acting in action/comedy flicks only!, and not story writing. M Night Shyamalan needs to take a break and rediscover the lost passion of movie-making. Smith Jr. has a long way to go before he matches his dad, but a good effort. Scores are - Storyline: 3/10; Acting: 4/10; Graphics: 6/10; Action: 4.5/10; Direction: 5/10 If Avatar is 10/10, this one is only 3/10. 1st half of the movie is relatively better than the second. Story and plot is weak, it doesn't tug on your heart like it is meant to be, and the emotional moments seem very very artificial. It could have been much better if some more crafting of subplots or rethinking of the action sequenced had been done. When i first heard the reviews for this film I thought that it isn't that bad surly. Boy was I wrong. In my opinion it is the worst film ever made. The actors are terrible especially Jaden Smith who makes Nicolas Cage look like Morgan Freeman. Will smith does nothing during the entire film apart from sitting on a chair in the crashed spaceship complaining about his broken leg. Also all the over actors in the film are all underused. There is no plot in the film all it is a stupid little kid running around an apparently dangerous earth where the biggest dangers are animals who have evolved to hunt humans ( despite humans not living there for 1000 years)and a stupid creature who is only in the film for a couple of minutes so all together just avoid this film.
