Tycoon Leonard Saber's multinational company makes a Barnum presentation of its intelligent system to link all Household appliances with shopping lists etcetera. Ben Kendall's secret government agents team, mainly comprising Guinea pigs, plus a mole and insects like the fly Mooch and even cockroaches, must stop it, being a cover for a deadly weapon which would exterminate humanity. The FBI is not impressed and shuts down Kendall's program, but he and his animal team go on.
The story is about a team of trained secret agent flies and a mole that takes on a mission for the US government. A specially trained squad of not guinea pigs is dispatched to stop a diabolical billionaire, who plans to taking over the world with household appliances.
G-Force is a movie that is marketed towards children. No adult will even find this movie the slightest bit funny.
First, the movie is spectacularly beautiful. The combination of live-action and animation strives for at least a close-to-photo-realistic look throughout the whole movie. This is the only good aspect about the movie. Anyone will be amazed by the sheer technology used to make one of the most beautiful movies this year. For example, wet guinea pig fur is rendered quite nicely at one point of the movie. =] Sadly, this is overshadowed by one of G-Force's hugest flaws.
There is no plot, or rather, it's a cliché one at that. The heroes have one straight objective throughout the movie. The dialog and interactions are recycled, no doubt. Then, there is the typical male strongman and the spunky female character. Often times, classic phrases that one may be familiar with are heard in the movie.
One last aspect that irks me is the blatant misplacement of the soundtrack. For example, a happy triumphant car chase victory features action-packed orchestral music with a slightly foreboding feel. Instead, even something simple as "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas, which is repeated a few times in the movie, would have sufficed.
Bottom line: The cliché overshadows the beauty - a la beautiful...yet lacking somehow.
I want to say that G Force was much better than I had anticipated, and I am surprised by the many negative reviews. Clearly aimed at the juvenile portion of the market, this grandfather had a delightful time attending with his 6 year old grandson. The special effects, even in 2-D, were extraordinary. I still am not sure what exactly I saw--was it animation, computer generated effects, live action animals? The effects were that good! The story line was very simple, but what do you expect in a children's story? The climax near the end with the most action was a bit over the top--hint: transformers ripoff--but it was part of a cute and unexpected twist in the story line which went along with the sheer fiction nature of the whole tale. All in all, I don't think this over-60 year old could have enjoyed a film for the elementary set any more.
G-Force is unlikely to keep anyone older than 10 on the edge of his seat, and the bathroom humor may annoy adults. But the message of unity, while unoriginal, is consistently sweet.
G-Force was filmed from a screenplay written by the American screenwriting team of Marianne and Cormac Wibberley. Guinea pigs are the "G" in "G-Force", a specially trained team of guinea pigs who are trying to stop a diabolical scheme to destroy the world by bombarding it with space junk. Apart from the title, no. G-Force: Guardians of Space (1987) was the second American version of the Japanese series Kagaku ninja tai Gatchaman (1972), which had been previously dubbed as Battle of the Planets (1978).
