Hit-man Victor Maynard is proud of his family's tradition in the profession, and is endlessly reminded of his heritage by his interfering mother. When he has problems completing a contract on Rose he is very annoyed to find another company brought in to complete the job. Impulsively defending his former target he finds he is now in danger himself. This is new territory for him - protecting a kleptomaniac wild cannon, or, to put it another way, a head-strong but very attractive young lady. A hitman tries to retire but a beautiful thief may change his plans. From all concerned. Bill Nighy was fantastic and Emily Blunt was a suitably sexy foil to his outdated chic. Stirling support too from the usual ensemble cast of British supporting stars. This kept me amused on a long flight when 3 other films, I won't even mention, to avoid promoting them one iota, bored me rigid. Yes it was pretty corny but it doesn't pretend to be anything else. Two of the other films were US made RomComs. How predictable they are and how badly directed, really stood out badly when compared against this well crafted piece of work. Also predictable I don't recall seeing this advertised anywhere. But not for accidentally finding it on an airline I would never have discovered it. Bill Nighy is a high-priced, mother-dominated, methodical and lonely assassin. He's hired to kill mischievous kleptomaniac Emily Blunt after she rips gangster Rupert Everett off with a forgery of a self-portrait by Rembrandt. Predictably, he ends up protecting her instead. Rupert Grint (from the HARRY POTTER series) is along for the ride as an apprentice. Old-fashioned crime farce is a remake of a French movie from 1993 (when the ideas might have seemed fresher), has a few scattered laughs, but overall the high quirk factor is debilitating. With Eileen Atkins as the wheelchair-bound mother, Martin Freeman as a rival assassin (with very white teeth), Gregory Fisher, Rory Kinnear and Geoff Bell.
