When two brothers fail to resurrect their dead mother, resulting in the youngest losing his body and the oldest an arm and leg, they end up joining the military in hopes of finding the Philosopher's Stone, which could return their lost bodies.
Two brothers lose their mother to an incurable disease. With the power of "alchemy", they use taboo knowledge to resurrect her. The process fails, and as a toll for using this type of alchemy, the older brother, Edward Elric loses his left leg while the younger brother, Alphonse Elric loses his entire body. To save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm and is able to affix his brother's soul to a suit of armor. With the help of a family friend, Edward receives metal limbs - "automail" - to replace his lost ones. With that, Edward vows to search for the Philosopher's Stone to return the brothers to their original bodies, even if it means becoming a "State Alchemist", one who uses his/her alchemy for the military.
At first I was going to say that once you got past the first few episodes the series truly began to become amazing, but upon further thought I take that back. This show is powerful from the very beginning, and while the first few episodes aren't as addicting as the later episodes of the series, they are beyond a doubt powerful enough to get you interested. In fact, the first 4 or so episodes have plenty of scenes and themes that can be quite disturbing and memorable. Once you get past the first few introductory episodes, the plot really starts to become addicting (specifically after a certain event which those who have watched the show can probably guess what I'm talking about) and it becomes really hard to not want to keep watching episode after episode to further the plot.
Since this is the "Complete Collection One" of two of FMA Brotherhood, that means that you only get half of the episodes in this collection. Considering you get over 30 episodes, this is actually a pretty hefty collection and definitely has a sizable amount of content in relationship to the price.
So, in short, Brotherhood is a fantastic and memorable series that doesn't last long enough to run itself dry, and the first collection you see here is a great way to become addicted to the story of the Elric brothers.
This is anime for the whole family to watch! (If you don't mind blood...) I mean! Come on! It's seriously the best! Great characters (Edward = fav =3=) I totally recommend this to everyone! Even those who have never even seen anime! It has wonderful art that match the background so well! The intros and outros are fantastic in every way! The background music is wonderful! The whole show is just wonderful! I really REALLY would recommend this if you don't mind blood, death, and religious type of things. Other than that it's one of the most halarious shows I've seen! Really, this is the masterpiece of all animes in my honest opinion! Beats AOT, beats MHA, beats OPM, beats all of these animes that are extremely famous now! Please! Watch this show! It's the best!
No, this has no relation with the movie or the previous tv series at all. This series follows more closely to the original manga than it's predecessor, though there are still some cuts from the original source material throughout the series. Several characters from the original manga that were left out of the previous series are used for this series, just as how there are numerous characters from the previous series that are exclusive to that series and are not used here (along with a few minor manga characters that were used in the first series but not here). Also while episodes 2-14 use similar material to the previous series, there are notably a few plot changes as it reflects based on what occurred in the manga and not the previous series.
