The second war against the Cylons is over, and The Twelve Colonies have been destroyed. Now Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galatica and President Laura Roslin lead a ragtag fleet of refugees in a supposed search for the fabled lost thirteenth colony, Earth. However, the dangers they face are many, which compound an already difficult situation. In addition to the Cylons hunting and attacking the fleet in space and their infiltrator units carrying out sabotage--even as their former unwitting pawn, Gaius Baltar, helps in the hunt for them while hiding both his own guilt and the strange presence that haunts his every thought--the fleet also faces internal political conflict in which the rabble-rousing figure Tom Zarek is merely the loudest dissenting voice, not to mention recurring shortages of food, water, and even oxygen. In the midst of these trials, however, clues begin to appear to suggest that Adama's bluff about finding Earth might hold more truth than anyone could have guessed.
When an old enemy, the Cylons, resurface and obliterate the 12 colonies, the crew of the aged Galactica protect a small civilian fleet - the last of humanity - as they journey toward the fabled 13th colony, Earth.
Battlestar Galactica is so well done that it will leaving you wonder why all other TV shows, and Sci-fi in general, can not be this good.
The cast of characters is deep, complex and sexy. You'll love the heroes to death and you will love to hate their enemies with the white hot passion of a thousand suns.
The writing is smart (they even found a nice way to curse on basic cable). The camera work is more than your simple static TV standards. And the action scenes are as good as any big budget space movie.
This is the re-birth of a not so hot, '70's, cheese show. Battlestar which tells the story of a small group of human refugees, floating through space after the apocalyptic revenge of their once subservient robots, Cylons. Through the stars, this small group is still pursued by their creations, who have evolved to appear human.
Unlike other sci-fi, which is built on distant histories, odd creatures and inhuman concepts, BSG built on the characters and their struggle with what it is to be 'human'.
As another review said, this truly is Sci-fi for grown ups. Start from the beginning, with the Mini-Series and catch up quick, because Battlestar Galactica is worth your time, it is heading somewhere special, and it keeps getting better every week.
Again, the best show on TV... it will have you on the edge of your seat and jumping out of it.
Well this was a really nice surprise! I just happened upon this movie, I guess i's the pilot for a TV-series coming soon, or at least so I hope.
If you are a sci-fi fan I can highly recommend this and if you are not there's plenty of drama and plots in it as well. The down and dirty reality of war (The sacrifices of human life in particular) combined with the special effects of space battles and the well laid plot makes you wish that it would be longer than the 2.45h it is.
I can imagine that die hard Original movie fans hate this movie but I say "dont be fooled by the blind". If there's a series coming then this is THE best damn Pilot I have ever seen and if not it's still a damn good Sci-fi film.

Yes, although it's producers call it a "reimagined" series, due to some slight differences. A battlestar is a very lage spaceship, kind of a cross between a battleship and an aircraft carrier. Cylons are humanoid robots created by mankind as servants and laborers. Eventually, they rebelled and declared war on their human masters. Miniseries - This 3 hour miniseries acts as a pilot for the weekly series and introduces the characters and situations.
Season 1 - Contains 13 episodes.
Season 2 - Contains 20 episodes.
Season 3 - Contains 20 episodes.
Battlestar Galactica: Razor - This 2 hour TV movie ( officially the first two episodes of Season 4 ) takes place during Season 2, with flashbacks to the miniseries and earlier, but should be viewed here.
Season 4, Part 1 - Contains 10 episodes ( also known as "Season 4.0" on DVD ).
Season 4, Part 2 - Contains 10 episodes ( also titled "Season 4.5" or "The Final Season" on DVD )

Released on DVD and Blu-ray. Yes, the miniseries acts as a pilot, and sets up all of the events, characters, and themes of the series.
