Cleanskin: Ewan (Sean Bean) is a British Secret Service Agent faced with the task of pursuing and eliminating a British born Asian suicide bomber Ash (Abhin Galeya) and his terrorist cell, whilst Ash wrestles with his conscience and reflects on his journey to terrorism.
After an unsuccessful mission when a load of explosives is stolen by the terrorists Ash and Paul, the British Secret Service Agent Ewan is assigned by his superior Charlotte to team-up with agent Mark and hunt down the terrorist before the elections. Ash had used a bomber in a restaurant to kill many people and Ewan has a trauma in this regard since his wife died in a terrorist attempt. Ewan track Paul and Ash down and in-between he kills a Muslim in an old building believing that he would be another terrorist. All his deadly actions are covered by Charlotte team until the day he discovers a locker key hidden inside the coat that belonged to the Muslim that he killed and he discloses a web of lies and manipulation.
Interesting: a real subject close to our hearts. Who doesn't want to stop terrorists and their violent ways. Sean comes across as a loner, we don't really know much about his past but we do know he loves "serving for his country"! And the character of Ash gives us both sides of the coin.
Thoughtful: it really does leave you wondering if the events in the film are based around real life events, or just the director's imagination. The events of 7/7 really brought the 'Britishness' out of us, and some of the subjects in Cleanskin bring back memories.
Enjoyable: a real British film that reminds us of past events, but shows both sides of the story.
I love spy movies. If you don't, stop reading.
There are Hollywood spy movies and then there are ones from everywhere else. This is one of those. Ignore people who say it's too dark. They must be one of the beige brigade. It's not as gritty as it could be. I gave it an 8 only because there is always room to improve.
