Johnny Rico is called back into action to defeat the bugs.
In the front-line of the Second Bug War in planet Roku San, the charismatic Sky Marshal Omar Anoke arrives with his assistant General Dix Hauser in an starship piloted by his fiancée Captain Lola Beck and they are welcomed by their friend and hero of Planet P Colonel Johnny Rico. While Anoke inspects the facility protected by fences, Dix, Lola and Rico go to a bar to celebrate their reunion. However, Dix has an incident with the local farmers and arrests Rico for insubordination; meanwhile, there is a shut down in the defense fences and the bugs break into the facility. Lola and Anoke escape in the starship, but it crashes in Planet OM-1 and Lola, Anoke, Chief Bull Brittles, Jingo Ryan, Dr. Wiggs and the religious flight attendant Holly Little save themselves in a rescue pod. When Dix discovers that Admiral Enolo Phid has no intention to rescue the survivors in the Arachnid Quarantine Zone, he assigns Rico in the Marauder Program to lead a squad with six other troopers to rescue Lola and Anoke.
I really enjoyed the first film. The second, well, after the second you know that the third one will suck big time. Take a look for yourself. Extremely low budget, ridiculous story, bad acting, ugly CGI... Now, Edward Neumeier who wrote all Robocop films, including TV series and more, brought us this despicable gem, which was... spiced with Christianity... wtf? Casper Van Dien, who is still appearing in these straight to DVD film, you can see that his acting career has failed. None of the actors did a good job, even Amanda Donohoe, she was just there for a tough chick commander role. There's nothing special to say about this film... really nothing, except that pretty much liked the part where chosen solders are launched in their "Marauder" armors and kicking the s**t out of bugs. Other things... nothing.
For the end, the ugly thing - the Christianity. I don't understand... that was unnecessary in this film. Let alone in some futuristic film. There is a God in universe, we must marry in church, blah blah... That really irritated me. We also had a conflict between theist and atheist and in the end, the theist wins... whoopee! But, the theist chick was hot... so, I wasn't that irritated. So, 59% of the film comes down that there is a God in space... I really don't recommend this film to anyone. Well, if you are a Christian, you'll love it. Maybe.
The first film was a great satirical futuristic science-fiction action thriller, the sequel wasn't, and this second lower-budget sequel was trying to continue the story. Basically the bug race are still invading the Earth, and the Mobile Infantry are still fighting against them, and trying to find ways to destroy them once and for all. Colonel Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) is arrested for insubordination, while the ship with Captain Lola Beck (Jolene Blalock) and Sky Marshal Omar Anoke (Stephen Hogan), along with Chief Bull Brittles (Stelio Savante), Jingo Ryan (Cokey Falkow), Dr. Wiggs (Danny Keogh) and religious Holly Little (Marnette Patterson), have their ship crash on a planet swarmed with bugs, and which is planned to be blown up. Also starring Boris Kodjoe as Gen. Dix Hauser, Amanda Donohoe as Admiral Enolo Phid, Cécile Breccia as Lt. Link Manion, Garth Breytenbach as Pvt. Slug Skinner, Graeme Richards as Lt. Danner, Tanya Van Graan as Sgt. Sunday, Antonio Summerton as Sergeant Hightower and Nicole Salandra as Sgt. Kirby. The CGI and gory effects are okay for a TV budget, Van Dien returning doesn't really improve the story which is flat, so just like its predecessor isn't great, it has some moments to be liked, but only moments, all in all, a silly science-fiction action adventure. Adequate!
Those characters were in a different part of the galaxy during the events of Starship Troopers 3: Marauder.
Carmen and Carl along with Rico reunited in the sequel and fourth film Starship Troopers: Invasion.
As for Ace and Zim, both are mentioned as being still alive in Starship Troopers: Invasion. Ace by the end of the first Starship Troops movie was not keen on going "full career" after his bad experience being squad leader during the failed invasion of Klendathu, so it is likely that he retired from federal service.
