Months after a zombie plague has wiped out 90 percent of the American population, a small group of survivors fight their way cross-country to a rumored refuge on the island of Catalina.
Three small groups of survivors of a zombie plague join forces to reach the ferry boat to a sanctuary that they are not sure that it does exist in the Catalina Island. Along their journey, they are hunted down by hordes of zombies and only a few of them survive.
The big burly black guy wielding a hammer played by Ving Rhames in the movie was Tyrese in the Walking Dead comics, while the athletic black woman with the katana played by Lesley Ann-Brandt was Michonne in the comics. Other than being called Henry & Cassie and Tyrese having hair, they were basically direct lifts.
However, not a bad effort for SyFy - effects were okay and there was some good tense moments in the movie. The actors did a decent job with their material, the apocalyptic LA landscape was done fairly well, though I don't know if they ever explained that satellite/space station streaking through the sky. No big stunners in terms of originality - shamblers and runners for zombies, though they didn't expand on the zombies getting smarter/laying ambushes, either.
Pathetic. Why does Sci-Fi always seem to have the right idea yet execute so poorly? Didn't make it 10 minutes into this wasted effort before hitting stop. I enjoy low budget efforts, freshman creativity and even 'me too' productions if passion is applied. There was no effort exerted in this badly produced, acted and directed production. Someone was either simply going through the motions for hope of profit or entirely clueless as to how to tell a story and capture it on film.
There must be a long list of students coming out of film schools chomping at the bit for a shot. Hopeful Directors, Writers, Actors and the rest. You know, the ones that will work cheap for a vision. Are they really that tough to spot? Get your head out of you know where Sci-Fi and invest in your product. Who knows, you might just become something significant.
The government doesn't set off EMPs to stop zombies, it sets them off to stop people who have the zombie plague but have not yet turned into zombies. This was done because infected people were fleeing from urban areas by car, train, plane, etc., and were only spreading the plague faster. Having watched all of Europe and the Pacific Rim countries collapse in just days or weeks to the plague, the government used EMPs as a last, desperate measure. It didn't work. 497e39180f
