A gang of young thieves flee Paris during the violent aftermath of a political election, only to hole up at an Inn run by neo-Nazis.
In Paris, during the riots due to the election of a conservative candidate to the presidency of France, a group of four muslim small-time criminal teenagers from the periphery; Alex, Tom, Farid, the pregnant Yasmine, and her brother Sami, plan to run away from Paris to Amsterdam with a bag full of robbed money. However, Sami is shot and the group split up, with Alex and Yasmine going to the emergency hospital with Sami while Tom and Farid head to the border with the money. Tom and Farid decide to stop in a bed and breakfast nearby the frontier, and are hosted by Gilberte and Klaudia that offer free room and sex to the newcomers. They call Alex and Yasmine who are fleeing from Paris to join them in the inn. But soon they discover that their hosts are sadistic cannibals of a Nazi family led by the deranged patriarch and former SS officer and Nazi war criminal Le Von Geisler who plans to make Yasmine the brood mare for a new Aryan master race.
If you have watched recent french gore movies and enjoyed it,then you would definitely love frontier(s).The movie works on a tiny created plot,starts with riot scene in Paris.Some crooks with cash in their hands try to cross the French border in urgency.They encounter an isolated inn on their way and decide to rest there.But their whole idea turns into an unexpected nightmare and before anyone could gather sometime to understand what exactly happened,they start getting butchered like farm pigs!! Frontier(s) scores on visuals.Some of the scenes are really intense and gory.There is no need to justify mindless violent sequences in the movie because the whole purpose was to show the killing and torture in artistic fashion.
I would rate Frontier(s) higher than Martyrs[2007] & Haute Tension[2003] because it is extremely graphic in nature and plot looks believable to me.It stands up to the standards of Inside[2007] but could have been much better if the background of the psycho-cannibalistic nature of family was explained.Nonetheless Frontier(s) is absolutely must for gore fans but for others please stay away from it or you may end up hating this insignificant but entertaining genre.
I have to say this movie is not the worst thing I have ever seen but it is nothing like what everyone else is saying it is. I went in expecting this horrific tale and honestly speaking I did not find anything disturbing or suspenseful that I hadn't seen done better (TCM).
The story itself could have led to so many different avenues and yet it seems they decided to stick with a basic run of the mill people get attacked by crazy family film and hope people are shocked because they happen to be Nazi's.
Some people have said that it is up there with Haute Tension and I think they're right as Haute was a let down in itself (those of you who have seen the film will know what I'm talking about), great premise but just something lacking in the end.
Frontiere(s) is not something I would probably watch again, if you watch suspense, horror and gore watch À l'intérieur instead.
There's no depth, surprises, or wit to the screenplay, which seems motivated by the sole desire to generate the vilest, most disgusting people and images imaginable.
