These are the new voyages of the starship Enterprise. Picking up from where the original 5-year mission left-off, a new cast continues the adventures of this legendary crew: to boldly go where no human has ever gone before & to search for new life forms.
First of all the guy that plays Kirk can't act his way out of a wet paper bag. The plot was silly in all three of the episode's, you can shure tell these folks are a bunch of fan-boys. However the sets look good except for the chairs on the bridge, Wrong Burke chairs. Second the CGI is very cartoonish, ship moves in odd ways. Third Spock looks like a girl with way too much blue eye shadow. Walter seemed washed up as an actor in To sevre all my days, and how can you kill him in TOS if he is alive in the movies, If DC Fontana did the screen play Wow what a poor one.Also the camera work was very poor in To Serve all my days,The camera work was much better in Come What May.
OK I admit that it is not up to the quality of even the original series let alone Next Generation in acting quality and some of the dialog. but considering that this project has been put together by a group of unknown actors doubling as producers, directors, writers etc... I think the result is nothing short of spectacular. These guys (and gals) have retained a good bit of the "feel" of TOS and the special effects are nothing short of amazing when you consider the kind of budget these guys have to be on. Admittedly I'm predjudiced. I grew up on TOS when it was The Only Series. So being able to see new episodes of Capt Kirk's original 5 year mission is a real treat. For those who fault this show because the actors aren't quite up to the roles they have undertaken keep in mind Shatner, Nimoy, Kelly, & the rest created those roles so these young inexperienced actors have huge shoes to fill. Remember when Next Generation first hit the airwaves? Picard was kind of stiff, Riker was trying too hard to act blatantly like Kirk. Data was too comical almost like a android Stan Laurel. It took these actors,all of who were much more experienced than this cast, the better part of the first season to really develop their characters. I think it's only fair to allow these new actors a chance to develop their take on these old established characters. It's also not fair to expect them to be exactly like the characters from the sixties series. The bottom line is I found these first two episodes entertaining and enjoyable. I wish them well and hope to enjoy the continuing adventures of the good ship Enterprise.
Star Trek: New Voyages' producers/crew feel that Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the rest should be treated as "classic" characters like Willy Loman from Death of a Salesman, Gandalf from Lord of the Rings or even Hamlet, Othello or Romeo. Many actors have and can play the roles, each offering a different interpretation of said character. Though the character is the same, the interpretation of the actor is what's in question. We feel that the crew of the Enterprise has more to teach us about life and each other than has been explored to date. We also feel the new actors can add to the legend in a believable and contemporary way. Yes, some may have a problem separating Shatner from Kirk - all we ask is that you give it a try and see whether Kirk and the crew still have something to say to you. The cost of the production is being paid out of pocket by the producers/crew. Yes, it is expensive, but we're fortunate to have many talented people donate their time and money for a worthy cause and a once in a lifetime trip around the galaxy! We in no way make money from this show and we all volunteer our time, effort and our own money to bring these shows to the internet. The new show will be the continuing voyages of Captain Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701 as seen in the 1966-69 television series, Star Trek. The series was cancelled after its third season. We are restarting the series as if it were in its fourth year. The idea for creating a new series based on the original Star Trek first originated in 1997 with James Cawley. James worked with original series and Next Generation costume designer, William Ware Theiss. Over the years James has amassed a huge collection of set pieces, props and costumes with one goal in mind: reclaiming the spirit of Trek. New Voyage's ultimate goal is to produce a full year's worth (22 or more) web episodes per year maintaining Gene Roddenberry's philosophy and vision for the original 1960s television show. We believe in challenging peoples thoughts and enticing them to action. We feel that Star Trek is a great vehicle for exploring the human condition. We plan to devote the series to commenting on the current condition of life on Earth in the 21st century. The costumes, sets and props will be those seen in the original series of Star Trek. Some of the props, sets and costumes will be updated to reflect the changes planned for Star Trek Phase II, the aborted series that would have featured the original cast in the late 1970's. All of the sets utilized in the original series are being re-created to some degree including the addition of some new ones. The following sets are complete and standing: Full - 360 Degree Bridge, Turbolift, Transporter Room and Briefing Room. Sickbay, Crews Quarters, Ships corridors, Captain's Office, Rec Room, Gym, Chapel, Admirals office and whatever other needs are Swing Sets constructed as needs arise. The cast will feature Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock, Dr. McCoy, Lieutenant Uhura, Lieutenant Cmdr. Scotty Scott, Lieutenant Cmdr. DeSalle, Nurse Chapel, and Lieutenant Rand. Sulu and Chekov will make their first appearance in episode 3. Additionally, Transporter Chief Kyle marks his return to the Enterprise as well! The original Star Trek characters are so well known that the task of recasting the parts seems impossible. We are not casting people who look or act like the original actors. What we dont want is a parody an actor imitating William Shatner doing Kirk for example. We want actors who will be able to remind us of our old friends, but bring to the characters a new life, a fresh interpretation, not a stale imitation. The cast we are assembling are actors first and a few have only now begun viewing TOS episodes. But what they bring to the table is talent and vitality. They will be believable as these characters and will be as effective as any Trek cast thus far! Since our series takes place BEFORE those species were discovered, you probably wont be seeing them here. But as Mister Spock is known to say, "There are always possibilities". Gene Roddenberry is quoted as saying that had it not been for budgetary constraints, the original series Klingons would have had the ridged foreheads. For us, it's a factor of time and money as well. Therefore, any Klingons we have on the show may or may not have ridges... "it's a factor of time and money..." The only way to be "part of the action" is to get involved in the production. This will involve a commitment of time (long hours), money (you pay for your own food and lodging) and hard work. But you will find that the rewards are priceless. You will get to watch filming of the episode, you will get to meet and become acquainted with the cast, crew and guest stars.
