28-year old Jackson "Jack" Davis Hammond is sentenced to 25 years in prison for armed robbery, although he is innocent, but manages to escape on the way to Mexico. To get away from the police while at a convenience store, he takes a girl as hostage California heiress Natalie Voss, and drives off in her car. The girl happens to be the only daughter of billionaire Dalton Voss, one of the richest men in the state. This movie is even more insulting than heavy doses of prime-time reality television. It was painful.
A bad movie that knows it's a bad movie is at least acknowledging it's stinkyness and for that you have to give most stinkers a little respect but this movie made absolutely no attempt to admit to itself just how unbelievably bad it was. You'd have to see it to know.
Its only value to society is that it can be used to gauge just how terrible other movies are, as in: "Boy that movie was horrible. Not nearly as bad as The Chase, but still awful."
The Chase might not have received the attention of more notable blockbuster movies of Charlie Sheen, but I loved this movie. There may be a temptation on the part of the viewer to the ignore the essence of this movie, but I found it very inspirational. At its heart, THE CHASE is a simple love story comedy of two people who happen to meet in the strangest of circumstances, but whose love at first kidnapping love proves too strong for disaster. Charlie Sheen is wrongly convicted as a murderer and escapes authorities taking a hostage, Kristy Swinson (and her BMW), leading California police (Henry Rollins) on a chase through Southern California in an attempt to reach safe haven in Mexico. The two fall in love and overcome all the odds to reach their destination. Anyone who has faced the struggles of life will find this movie inspiring and funny!
