Elmo McElroy is a streetwise American master chemist who heads to England to sell his special new formula - a powerful, blue concoction guaranteed to take you to 'the 51st state.' I watched this film on a flight home from Heathrow to San Francisco and I was laughing uncontrollably. This has to be one of the funniest black comedies around. Who knew what a "Rusty Sherrifs Badge" was until they watched this. Ricky Tomlinson plays a superb part as usual. I urge anyone to watch this.
In keeping it short: I like Samuel L. Jackson, but I can't understand why he has to appear in so many bad movies, like th 51st state! 3 points for: Meat Loaf. Of the WHOLE cast only ML stands out in his role (which, however, is not much longer than just a cameo). His fate, then again is DEEP from below the waist. BAD teen comedy fodder out of place (then again, maybe not that much out of place after all...) in this flick.
One cool sniper-shootout-scene. Nothing bad to say about it! Pretty long and violent. Other than that, rest of the movie is anemic, dull and boring (yes, all three).
Soundtrack. The rave scene in the end manages to feature some GOODY Ministry of Sound - trance tunes. Wish I could say "Any movie that has "Synasthesia" in its soundtrack listing can't be that bad."
'Cause this one just is.
It isn't simple bad taste that Formula 51 deals in, but a total vacuum of feeling.
