When Banner is held as a witness to a violent crime linked to the Kingpin, the fugitive is helped by lawyer Matt Murdock who is also the superhero, Daredevil.
David "Belson" drifts into New York City, and goes on a subway. With him is a woman and two guys. When the two guys attack the woman, David tries to help, but is beaten and turns into the Hulk and saves the woman. When he turns back, he finds himself arrested, and the woman accuses David of being her attacker. David is approached by Attorney Matt Murdock, who wants to represent him. When he tells Murdock that he can't pay him, Murdock tells him that he is hoping that David can help him incriminate Wilson Fisk, a powerful criminal. David doesn't want any part of it, but Murdock convinces him to trust him. Murdock goes to see the woman, but can't get her to change her story. Later in her room, someone tries to kill her, but she is saved by Daredevil, a crime fighter. Murdock tells David that he has to go trial, but David says he can't, but Murdock says they have no choice. Later, while David is in his cell, he turns into the Hulk and escapes. David tries to leave town, but Daredevil finds him, and reveals himself to be Murdock.
Of all episodes (I know this is a feature film), this one will come across as quite grim. On the whole, this is the only episode where viewers will see the Hulk 'extra' angry.
ITV (UK TV) showed this in the mid 90's, which was generously cut. As a result of this the film lost its 'anger' identity for the entire plot, rendering the story useless (evidently it was edited terribly - with VHS style Pause/frame motion movement when changing to the hulk).
However (oh is this good news(?)) the good came when our channel Five played the film in its entirety a couple of years ago. It showed David's real fear of being attacked in a train, and when he turned into the Hulk, it was the first time we saw the Hulk with the intent to kill. He was ultra angry. He was ripping the seats off and snarling like a rottweiler!
Specifically during a scene at a Court, Banner was at his Hulking-best (he was even choking one of the lawyers with his hand - one of the many scenes deleted by ITV).
After it being aired on Five, the restored savageness could now justify the crap story. When ITV played it they literally killed off the point of the story... which was basically saying that David is getting a bit **s*ed off with his alter ego.
"The Trial of The Incredible Hulk" was not bad at all. Although, like the TV show, there were a few flaws in it. For instance, David Banner(Bill Bixby) has a beard at the beginning. When he "hulks" out, The Hulk(Louis Ferrigno) is clean shaven. At one point on "TIH" cartoon I saw the Hulk with a beard and mustache. Sounds strange from what I saw, but that's how things go in the made for TV movie. At least they got one superhero right. Daredevil(Rex Smith), the blind lawyer/vigilante crime-fighter who stops evil in its tracks. Then there's Wilson Fisk(John Rhys-Davies)AKA "The Kingpin". Of course they can't use that name because this man has hair, The real Kingpin of crime is BALD! He's battled Daredevil in the past, as well as Spiderman, The Hulk will smash him up, easily. Not a worth fiend for the Green Goliath. I liked the part where Daredevil went into the trap that Fisk has sent for him, and The Hulk smashed the little window and took out all the assailants. That was great. This movie is exciting all the way, it could have added more action to it, especially with the jail break scene. And the courtroom scene was great as well, if the sandals Ferrigno wore didn't give him away. Other than that, I enjoyed it very well. Rating 3 out of 5 stars.
