The movie opens in a Los Angeles convenience store one late Monday night, where a smalltime drug dealer named Nick (Aaron Eckhart) is trying to decide what coffee brand to buy. His ex-lover Dallas (Paulina Porizkova) and fellow hitman Billy Hill (James LeGros) are getting impatient and tell him to hurry up. Conflicts between Nick and the cashier (Luck Hari) ensue, resulting in Dallas shooting the cashier dead. Though the three attempt to cover up the crime, they are forced to also shoot a police officer (Bari K. Willerford) when he discovers blood on the ground.
A former L.A. drug dealer has moved to Houston to make a new life for himself as a married architect. Everything falls apart when he is suddenly visited by one of his former cohorts who comes carrying heroin. Discovering the dope, the architect flushes it down the drain. This sets up a series of tough customers seeking the dope including a Rasta hit-man, an ex-lover Dallas who ties him up and rapes him, a criminal called Billy with a penchant for torture, and a rogue cop.
Casey was a drug dealer and now he lives a normal life with his wife. One day Casey's old partner Nick showed up. Nick borrows Casey's car for a ride and leaves a briefcase full of drugs without telling Casey. Peoples starts to show up in search of that briefcase. It's a one day story, moreover looks like a Pulp Fiction type movie. The music also plays out nicely and black humor works sometimes. The plot is simple with phenomenal scenario and actors handled their role amazingly. Overall, it's a watchable chaotic movie and I really enjoyed it.
I didn't necessarily find this movie to be hysterical but it was amusing during some parts. The story isn't original, about a guys past catching up to him thanks to his brother. But it's done in a sort of Quentin Tarantino style, I guess the director for this was inspired or influenced by him. But just isn't good as some of the good Tarantino movies. The direction goes in a very spontaneous manner, like you won't expect it for the most part. But isn't all that believable or realistic but just comes off pretty wacky at times. The beginning scene got me hooked but most of the way through it just isn't good as the first scene in this movie. Which is unfortunate cause it somewhat really seemed like one of the good Tarantino movie with some violent style humor. There is even a scene with the protagonist getting raped by a woman who is a sexual deviant. After the first scene I thought I would dislike this movie but as it progresses it gets better. The ending however sucked in my opinion. But for the most part they did alright with the shoe string budget they had.
