In the original movie, the cyborg-teachers were all destroyed. Well that's what we thought, but there's one more rogue military robot out there determined to clean up the education system.
In 1999, the future is a violent metropolis where gangs rule the hallways and themes like education and higher learning are a mere memory. Jenna McKensie is a young, sweet high school teacher who witnesses the killing of one of her students by lethal gang member, Sanders. Jenna wants to testify, but Sanders and his group use intimidation and fear as a means to keep Jenna from talking to the authorities, which greatly upsets her boyfriend Emmett who wants to stomp Sanders and his gang out. Though Jenna refuses to be intimidated, she begins to ponder whether or not her actions will improve things at the decaying high school where she works. Enter John Bolen, a stone faced substitute teacher who is not predisposed with putting up with crap like his fellow faculty members are. John is definitely a teacher who believes in discipline...extremely strict discipline. When students are out of line to the point where the principal can't control them, John takes it upon himself to show student's the meaning of the term "Out of School Suspension". Jenna takes a liking to the silent, stoic substitute and feels she has found a comrade who is willing to listen to her problems. When Sanders and his gang attempt to do harm to Jenna, John shows up in the nick of time and defends her. Seeing that Sanders and his crew have no respect for authority or the faculty, John decides that it's time to take matters into his own hands to deal with these 'problem students'. As the bodies start piling up, Emmett and the local sheriff learn that an ex-C.I.A. operative named Gordon Ash is in town and is tailing John. It turns out that John isn't an ordinary teacher after all: he is actually the last of a group of cybernetic military fighting machines who were reprogrammed to teach students in the worst schools and those who misbehave are to be strongly disciplined. And it just so happens, that Sanders and his group are at the top of John's "Termination" list. But then, something screws around with John's mainframe and pretty soon, he's targeting everyone for deletion...even Jenna. Can Jenna find a way to stop her protector before he demolishes the whole school.
Plot Synopsis: California, 2001. John Bolen is a substitute teacher who travels from school to school, secretly killing troublesome students. He heads to Monroeville High School, where he helps a female teacher who is being pressured into not testifying by a student who she saw murder someone in cold blood. Bolen then proceeds to murder the student's friends, while being pursued by a federal agent who believes that Bolen is the last of the A77 military battle androids.
"Class of 1999 II: The Substitute" is the sequel to "Class of 1999", which in turn is the sequel to "Class of 1984". Class of '84 was an unofficial remake of the '50s classic "Blackboard Jungle". The film was a violent tale about a teacher who took on the gangs that threatened him & his family. Class of '99 switched sides & became an over-the-top punk action film. The Substitute reverts back to the teachers' side. The script is nothing special but recycles future clichés, with prison-like school uniforms & barcoded car licence plates. For the acting, Sasha Mitchell plays the lead role with a wooden determination, which is appropriate for the role. The action scenes are well executed, although the climax is ham-strung by a cop-out of an ending.
As there are already quite a few Reviews on this, i wont go too deep on this... I just love this film, because it triggered something...it has a certain charm about it, and anyone who likes 80s action B movies(although this isn't even from the 80s) should understand what i mean by this...
Sasha Mitchell is great in this role....he is cocky and cool, funny at times...just the right approach for this type of role, i think. Though the film has its flaws...surprise, its a cheap movie, and if you want you will find something to stink about...some movies just need a certain amount of disbelief , and you're fine...
I wish i could have the song playing in the opening, but it seems to be unavailable.. no surprise there, but sad nevertheless...
The war poem is something that really stuck in my head..
How anybody feels about a movie is rooted in personal feelings and observations...to me its a fun ride, and id so love to be John Bolen for a day or two....enjoy!!! My mission is met!
