Eight years after the One Year War, the Earth Federation creates an elite force called the Titans to hunt Zeon remnants. When Titans proves to be no better than Zeon, the Anti Earth Union Group (AEUG) is formed to restore peace in space.
After the One Year War and subsequent wars with the last remnants of the Principality of Zeon, the Earth Federation formed a special military force to prevent space colonies from revolting against the Federation. Thus, the Titans were born. Eight years have passed since the end of the One Year War and now the tables have turned. The once good Earth Federation is now more corrupt than ever and will turn the other way even when its special force, the Titans, commit atrocities like gassing millions of civilians to their deaths. Because of this abuse of authority the Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG) is formed from the breaking off of many Federation politicians and military who oppose the Titans, and they will ally with former members of the Principality of Zeon, who dislike the oppression and tyranny towards the space colonies. This where the story begins. Many heroes from the One Year War, like Amuro Ray, Char Aznable, Bright Noa, Hayato Kobayashi, and Quattro Bajeena (Char Aznable), as well as new heroes (Camille Vidan, Emma Sheen, Katz Kobayashi) will fight the Titans' Bask Ohm, Jerid Mesa, Paptimus Scirocco and Yazan Gable, and the Axis' (former Zeon) Haman Kahn, to see who will win the war to end tyranny.
Bandai finally gave UC Gundam fans what they'd been waiting for: the delicious orgy of death called Zeta Gundam. Unfortunately, the legitimate packaging is a disappointment to hardcore fans and casual (if there is such a thing) fans alike. First of all, Bandai removed both the original opening theme songs... Strike one... The translation is lamentable for having taken as long as it did (learn a little bit of Japanese and it will help fill in what the translators left out or changed) Strike two... Get some cultural consistency checkers; "Pallas Athene" is the full name of the Greek goddess, yet they change the suit's name to the "Palace Athena" for some reason or another. Other things that are annoying caused by the lack of internal consistency within the gundam universes naming translators. Traditional spellings of character and ship names that have lasted over 15 years have been changed. The Agama is the Argama, Jamitov Hymen is Jamitov Hymem, Camille Vidan becomes Kamille Bidan, and just other irritating "Engrish" errors in the translation, but we'll leave this as a foul ball. Devoid of any special features (unless you consider the pencil sharpeners special features). Strike three. Don't get me wrong, Zeta Gundam is the greatest sci-fi anime of all time, however the packaging did everything it could to sabotage it.
Z Gundam is an excellent Gundam series, and considered among fans to be the best and most serious. Unlike Gundam Wing or G Gundam (which debuted on Cartoon Network) this one takes place in the same "universe" as the original Gundam (which was also on Cartoon Network for a time). It is 8 years after the war against Zeon, but during this time, the Earth Federation has become corrupt. In fear of other Zeon-like uprisings, they create a police force known as the Titans. However, the Titans are mere bullies, and the law doesn't apply to them (think the Nazi SS during WWII). A rebel faction, the Anti-Earth Union Group(AEUG) are the good guys in this series.
Among the AEUG is ace pilot Quatro Bagina, (who is really a disguised Char Aznable, villain from the original Gundam), and 17-year old Camille Vidan, who is the main character of this series. Camille is a powerful Newtype, and what happens to him and his family in the first few episodes will prove to you how dark this show is. Even Amuro Ray returns and plays a big role in Z Gundam. The best part? ZZ Gundam, which has a whole new set of characters and takes place one day after Z Gundam ends, begins.
