Orphaned at a young age, former officer with Goa Police, Arjun Vishnu Bhaagwat, now lives alone, though he has a sweetheart in gorgeous model, Priya. Amidst reports of police extending their search for missing prostitutes, specifically the Caucasian daughter of a high-profile Russian Diplomat, Arjun is hired by a gangster, Sameer, and for a fee, must not only locate missing call-girls but also their abductor. Unable to get any clues, he than enlists the assistance of Sameer to recruit a bait, Reshma, who comes from an impoverished family, for the killer. Shortly thereafter Reshma goes missing, and Arjun loses contact with her. Guilt-ridden, he decides to use all possible resources to try and locate her before she herself becomes included in the official 'missing persons' list.
An ex-cop is hired by a pimp to find missing call girls and the man responsible behind their abduction.
The first Murder was a run of the mill storyline. True, it was a remake but it didn't rise above the original nor did it stand out in any way as a bollywood movie. So pretty forgettable on all counts.
The second movie, though, seemed to be different. Much darker in nature and scope it looked promising. Again, it's a remake of an original movie, which by now anyone with half a brain knows that anything connected with the Bhatt camp is never original. But I hoped that it would be the kind of Bollywood movie that's standing apart from the regular family entwining tear inducing rubbish of yesteryear.
I was a little bit surprised and pleased with the product but mostly disappointed. The ruthlessness of the killer was portrayed well and was highly different to usual bollywood villains but the rest was pure bollywood masala. There were so many plot holes that it was impossible not to drive into one in ever scene. How is it is that the cops knew where to go at the end when they were never called nor did they follow anyone? Why doesn't EH's character drive by the nearby homes once he catches the killer very early on in the movie? Instead he meanders all over the place trying to find clues that make absolutely no sense and it's by fluke that he finds the location.
I normally don't watch the songs but as I'd heard them before watching the movie I quite liked the tunes and was looking forward to seeing them but it was all done horribly wrong, which spoilt it for me.
Acting wise, EH was semi decent. He tried to come off as a renegade cop with a supposed soft heart but he just looked like a big pansy with cool hair. Jacqueline Fernandes's voice was dubbed over so it was hard to really judge her acting but she tended to wear a lot of short clothes and look pretty. Her character was meant to be a tough girl but it got lost in translation. Prashant Narayanan was very good- nailed the creepy part spot on.
It's a shame that the movie itself was not spot on. Direction was poor and the movie seemed to move all over the place- there was nothing coherent in the flow. EH's character was equally confusing- he wasn't a cop any longer but somehow kept acting like he was still in the force. Bozo the clown has better instincts and investigative methods.
I was watching an interview with Mahesh Bhatt, who with a big grin and an arm around Jacqueline Fernandes's neck, announced that Murder 3 would be launched. What he failed to mention was that it would be launched after the Koreans, or the Americans, or whoever, made it first, giving the Bhatts enough time to study the scenes, copy it and shamelessly pass it off as an original idea.
Is it worth a watch... I suppose so. You could do a lot worse...like watching an abhishek bhachan movie...
Murder 2,the latest installment from Mohit Suri has nothing in connection with the original Murder,but has its own dose of entertainment in store for the audience.It has been inspired by the Korean slasher film The Chaser.The film is strictly not recommended for the children and the light-hearted and may be disturbing for them.Good performances,excellent music and protruding darkness make it an entertaining fare for the people who love erotic thrillers.The main highlight of the movie is a stellar performance by Prashanth Narayan.It is certainly one among the best crime thrillers to be made in Bollywood.Box office reports of the movie is excellent and has a steady collection for the first week.
Prashanth Narayan steals the limelight with his psycho-killer mannerisms.Emran Hashmi does his job quiet well. Jaquiline Fernandez has nothing much to play than to show some flesh and hot scenes.Sulagna Panigrahi is a talent to lookout for future and does a commendable job.
Some +ves::Excellent music,Good performance by Prashanth Narayan and Sulagna Panigrahi,Cinematography by Ravi Walia,Fast paced first half and Shagufta Rafique's dark screenplay. Some -ves::Absence of any connection with Murder 1,Some heavily disturbing scenes,Little bit slow second half and Not so appreciable editing work.
Music by Harshit Saxena,Mithoon,Sangeet Haldipur,Siddharth Haldipur is really melodious,touching and mind soothing.The album is one of the best musicals of 2011 and can be rated a 8.5/10.
Verdict::Murder 2 is an entertaining crime thriller with some good performances and music,which has nothing in connection with its prequel.Go 4 a darker,sleazier entertainer.Not recommended for the light-hearted.Ma Rating::7.5/10
