A cop with a connection to the criminal underworld finds his secret life exposed when he and his partner are caught stealing cocaine from a powerful drug dealer, a move that puts his son's life in jeopardy.
A drug heist goes wrong, as one of the drug carriers escapes after stabbing the robbers, gets a glimpse of their faces. The two masked men are actually two police officers, who decided to plan the heist. Vincent, a lieutenant who now has a bad stab wound, ends up with a huge bag of coke. The bag of coke belongs to a powerful mob boss/nightclub owner named Jose, who kidnaps Vincent's son in hopes to reclaim his property. Vincent has until the end of the night to return the stash and save his son.
When it comes to action thrillers, French cinema has put out some really good stuff over the last couple of years. This is another example of great action thriller. A ride you want to take if you like movies with a high suspense level. It actually impressed Americans that much, that they made a remake of this one.
You can assume that the Remake is not as good as this, but if you don't like reading subtitles, then you might want to go check the Jamie Foxx version of this. This one is a roller-coaster that won't let you breathe. Once the action starts, there is no stopping. It's more about action and about getting things rolling. Still you got really good actors pulling things off. Sit back, watch and enjoy
This isn't a "French" movie. This is a pretty conventional Mel Gibson/Harrison Ford action/thriller made in France.
For what it is, it is very successful and keeps moving from beginning to end and has a decent number of twists, but there is little "Frenchness" to it, other than it appears that the characters don't bathe often.
Still, if you want to chew up some time with a solid popcorn movie and you don't mind reading subtitles, this is a good choice. As long as you aren't expecting any philosophical insights into life or anything like that, I think you'll be satisfied and it's always nice to see some new faces and places, even if it's pretty much the same old same old as far as the plot goes.
An American remake is already being prepped. We suggest Hollywood simply cries uncle now and calls it a day.
