The Japanese ambassaor is visiting Marseilles to view the city police's anti-gang tactics. During the visit, however, he is kidnapped by a group working for the Japanese yakuza. Young officer Emilien is determined to rescue the ambassador and officer Petra (his girlfriend), who was also kidnapped, and restore the honor of his department. Once again, speed demon taxi-driver Daniel (from the first Taxi movie) is called upon to save the day with his high-speed driving skills.
Police inspector Emilien and his taxi-driver pal Daniel are back, this time on the tail of a group of Japanese yakuza.
I have a serious job, which consumes 5 days of a week. But on weekends I seek something different. This movie is a great escape from the every-day-is-the-same circles. The cars are fast, (even is a traffic jam), the ladies are beautiful, the terrorists do not kill anyone, the armed forces (seems) (almost) as effective as high spirited civilians. And the best of all it is NOT SERIOUS! You can freely laugh at the gags, no one gets really hurt. The plot might be simple, but the characters are perfectly crafted, very French, very accurately positioned into the film. Not high profile, deeply depicted characters, but cartoon-like snapshots about arche-typical drivers, gangsters, and crime-chasers. Perfect setup for a problem-free Saturday afternoon movie.
I do like Besson's style. I think this is a low profile movie (not a Fifth Element), but there is no compromise in terms of quality. It is a well crafted "light" movie, pure entertainment based on humor and adrenaline.
Almost as funny as the first film
I laughed almost through the entire movie. In fact, this movie is just as funny as the first one, if not funnier! It's good to see some really good European films for a change. I strongly recommend this film for obvious reasons.
