A getaway driver for a bank robbery realizes he has been double crossed and races to find out who betrayed him.
After three years in prison, the driver known as Wheelman has to work for mobsters to pay for a debt. When he is assigned to drive a getaway car for a bank heist, he is not able to contact his liaison and a stranger call him giving orders to deliver the stolen money to him. Soon he learns that he has been betrayed by his contact and spends the night trying to save his thirteen year-old Katie and his ex-wife Jessica from a gang that wants the money robbed from the bank. But who can be trusted?

This movie, while attempting to add a little depth, is rather shallow yet also mindlessly entertaining...if you like cars. This was made by people who are car lovers as there were a few noticeable detailed car dialog and car shots. Onto the plot, this is about a getaway driver for hire. He gets double crossed by a 3rd party during the middle of a job which of course angers everyone now in the mix. He is on the phone through most of the movie dealing with all parties, one being his teenage daughter. To no surprise some of the angry people try to track her down. How will everything shake out? There is a some above average cinematography, brief and solid car chases and an overload of swearing. Much more than necessary, even for a movie with shady and gruff characters. It's a modern and shallow car chase movie yet executed just fine.
So a strung out guy, driving a high powered sports car, gets double crossed from some previous heist. He's being pulled in different directions with threats of death, his wife and daughter. All this plays out on a cell phone and in the car. Occasionally he miraculously dodges bullets and one mess or another. The camera is always tight on the freaked out driver whose dialogue ranges from swearing, shouting and threatening. His car survives all kinds of bullets, rear endings and smashes. Must have been the run flat tires. Without the soundtrack and intense camera angles, this would be even more bland. He drives like every hack behind the wheel of an expensive car. The car could be going around in circles for all the difference it makes. It uses every cliché in the genre. Give it a pass.
This Netflix original from writer-director Jeremy Rush is one of the most gripping and entertaining action mysteries of the year.
