Frank Martin is an ex special ops, who now spends his life as a transporter on the other side of the law. With three rules, he always completes his contracts. One way, or the other.
Frank Martin returns as the Transporter with one very simple task - to deliver the package against all the odds. However, something that sounds so simple, is rarely so. Joined by two new team members, Caterina Boldieu, an ex- DGSE agent and later in the series, Jules Faroux, a computer and mechanical whizz, Frank is hired to deliver a diverse range of packages - from pop princesses to priceless paintings. Frank Martin takes the jobs no other transporter will touch or can achieve - simply because they are too challenging and the odds seemingly insurmountable. That is why he is considered the best transporter in the world. Frank's jobs take him to many beautiful locations around the world, but they also draw him into danger and mystery. And more often than not, solving that mystery will lead Frank to successfully completing his mission. However Frank's jobs aren't solely about the packages he must deliver but also about the people he meets. While his emphasis is always on completing the mission, Frank is unable to avoid the human emotions that come with dealing with clients in difficult situations - no matter how hard he tries. Transporter - The Series: Season 2 is an exciting, emotional, witting, adrenaline-fuelled twelve part series which will have the audience sitting on the edge of their seats as Frank drives them (sometimes quite literally!) through the twists and turns of each episode.
This series gives us more adventures featuring transporter Frank Martin; here played by Chris Vance rather than Jason Statham. Early on the stories are similar to the films as Frank transports people or items while various bad guys try to stop him. Later on transporting becomes almost secondary as he gets involved in various other capers.
When I heard that Frank was going to be played by somebody other than Jason Statham I wasn't too optimistic but I was soon won over by Chris Vance; thankfully he plays the character in a very different manner so doesn't feel like a poor imitation. François Berléand is the only actor from the films to feature; he is a lot of fun as Inspector Tarconi. The rest of the main cast does a solid job; notably Charly Hübner who provides plenty of laughs as mechanic Dieter Hausmann, Andrea Osvárt who plays Frank's booking agent Carla Valeri in the first season and Violante Placido who plays her replacement Caterina "Cat" Boldieu in the second series. The stories are enjoyable although the first season is better; this is partly down to the fact that there is an ongoing storyline involving a security agent investigating Frank and partly because it was clear later on that the budget wasn't what it was; the number of scenes involving car chases drops dramatically and many of those that do remain aren't as exciting. As well as the action in cars there is plenty of fighting, shooting as well as some impressive stunts. There is also some swearing and occasional nudity which may bother some viewers. Still overall it was an enjoyable series and I was disappointed when I learnt that it is unlikely that a third season will ever be made; especially given the cliff-hanger ending to the second season.
You know those action shows/movies that are so bad they are good? This isn't one of those.
Chris Vance is actually not bad as an action hero, so props there.
Let's break it down.
The car chases, are good, but then you realize the shots are just repeating and Frank's car seems to be made of adamantium.
The script is unsurprisingly terrible, no points lost here, mindless action is and mindless action does.
The girls are gorgeous, as are the settings.
The fight scenes are terrible. You actually see fists fly way off the mark and its slowed down so you can't not notice the horrible choreography?
There's an attempt to make cooky camera angles, but each one obviously makes for a terrible take so every now and then you get a blurry half second shot from inside something.
Continuity is some of the worst I have ever seen. People change outfits, phones, cars with alarmingly regularity, let's just pretend Frank's own car doesn't change make/model and transmission mysteriously.
Some of the acting is downright atrocious, but again, mindless action what do you expect?
And finally the audio, as though edited on Moviemaker by a novice, strange surround sound choices where people will whisper to your left despite being center frame and talking normally, the ADR is laughable at best and charchaters off-screen seem to talk endlessly during fight scenes so you don't forget they are there. Cars randomly increase in volume, did this even go through a professional post sound studio or did the cash get blown in the chase scenes?
TLDR:
It is too bad to even waste your time with, budget seems to have been blown on a couple of car chase scenes and not much else.
Luc Besson obviously didn't provide anything but the name and money, his gloriously touch is sadly absent.
