A rare mutation has occurred within the vampire community. The Reaper. A vampire so consumed with an insatiable bloodlust that they prey on vampires as well as humans, transforming victims who are unlucky enough to survive into Reapers themselves. Now their quickly expanding population threatens the existence of vampires, and soon there won't be enough humans in the world to satisfy their bloodlust. Blade, Whistler (Yes, he's back) and an armory expert named Scud are curiously summoned by the Shadow Council. The council reluctantly admits that they are in a dire situation and they require Blade's assistance. Blade then tenuously enters into an alliance with The Bloodpack, an elite team of vampires trained in all modes of combat to defeat the Reaper threat. Blade's team and the Bloodpack are the only line of defense which can prevent the Reaper population from wiping out the vampire and human populations.
Reapers, a new breed of vampire that feed off humans and vampires, emerge with plans for world domination and Blade must team with the Bloodpack, an elite team of vampire warriors specifically trained to hunt him, in order to defeat this new menace.
Undeniably cool, and as of March 22, Blade 2 slashes its way to the top of all of the films of 2002. This is easily the best film so far this year. With some of the most fantastic action scenes seen in years, Blade 2 finds itself in the same ilk as Aliens and Terminator 2.
Guillermo Del Toro's latest creation is a grotesque, blood filled masterpiece that far surpasses the original. Wesley Snipes returns as the title character, Blade. Feeling much more comfortable then he did in the original, Snipes verifies the fact that he is the most talented action star working today.
With a supporting cast, that includes a scene stealing Ron Pearlman; enough gore to shake a stick at; amazing action scenes; and one-liners to boot -- Blade 2 is a must see for anyone who likes action.
Blade (Wesley Snipes) rescues Whistler (Kris Kristofferson) from one of the vampire's tanks and turns him back into human. Scud (Norman Reedus) is Blade's new human sidekick. There is a new form of mutant vampires called The Reaper. They are even more powerful than the regular vampires. Blade must form an alliance with the Shadow Council to battle this new threat. He teams up with the elite vampire team The Bloodpack.
The new type of vampires look alright. There is more CGI blood and a higher body count. The fights are back. I guess if blood, kills, and fights are what you're looking for. And why not. Then this movie has it all and more of it. However I don't particularly like the CGI fights. They look like a video game. I always prefer the real hand-to-hand combat stunts. The other thing that irked me is the quick return of Whistler. While it's understandable to revive Whistler, it was done so quickly that it strikes a sour note. Those are annoying enough for me to marginally vote this down.
The drawing card for Blade II is -- the promise of a blood-soaked action/horror thrill ride, and Snipes and Del Toro get the down-and-dirty job done with style.
Blade IIis based on a vampire hunter featured in Marvel Comics. He was created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. Blade's first appearance was in The Tomb of Dracula #10 (July 1973) as a supporting character. The comic book Blade was adapted for the movie by American screenwriter David Goyer. The first Blade movie, Blade (1998), was released in 1998, followed by Blade II. A third sequel, Blade: Trinity (2004) followed in 2004. While it's never explicitly stated, Blade is seen with a large supply of Serum, in much smaller bottles from the first film. The amount of these he has suggests he does not need to increase his dose - Chances are, once she developed this, Karen left - either to return to a normal life or to join another group. There are a number of theories: (1) A line of dialogue from the film explains, "He shot himself and then he turned", as says Rush, the vampire Blade allows to leave as a "loose end" for showing him Whistler; (2) Director Guillermo Del Toro argued that no one saw Whistler shoot himself (in the DVD commentary), so he really didn't die in Del Toro's eyes; and (3) A deleted scene from the original Blade. When Blade and Karen were climbing out into the daylight after Blade had just blown up Deacon Frost, there was a figure in the background that appeared to be Whistler.
