Gunfighter Silver is hired by a lawyer to prove that his client, Chester Conway, is innocent of the saloon hold-up he's condemned to hang for.
Four people are killed in a saloon hold-up. The townspeople pin the murders on local no-count black sheep Chester Conway. Lawyer Jeff Plummer and prostitute Polly Winters don't believe that Chester is guilty of these crimes, so they hire smooth and suave gunman Silver to prove Chester's innocence and find the real killers.
I don't want to spoil this movie but have too in order to address a few points to educate or just plain have you think about it. This could have been a great SW movie I give it 6/10 only because, I like Garko and Kinski and the Silver character could have been much better if they just stuck to him trying to find out about the young Mexican girl that was killed in the opening scene. This opening was great with a Horror film touch to it and never seeing the culprit who murders the young woman for pleasure. The family going to the playboy Hacienda of legendary Silver trying to buy his gun for hire. Then we have local misfit and criminal Chester(Kinski) who plays a very small role but still a brilliant performance on his part. The middle with a secondary subplot nothing to do with the murder of the young girl but other unrelated murders and corruption and idiotic fight scenes and humorous tones by Silver really ruined this little flick to me personally. The ending was awesome going to back to the main beginning scene of the girl Chester is let go and being his arrogant nasty way walking away from the Sheriffs office Silver notices the missing eagle head medallion located on his gun belt pulls out the missing piece the family gave to Silver earlier throws it at him and tells him he knows he killed the girl etc. Chester backing up grabs a little girl as a human shield and we get to see Silver use that little hidden gun.. Lights out!!! Just amazing beginning and ending the rest was a rambling snooze fest subplot.
"Il Venditore Di Morte" aka. "Price Of Death" is an unusual mixture of Spaghetti Western and Murder Mystery. The interesting idea and two great actors, Klaus Kinski and Gianni Garko, make it an entertaining and interesting movie.
After a prostitute and a bartender are killed in a robbery in a little town's saloon somewhere in the Old West, a thug named Chester Conoway (Kinski) is arrested and immediately sentenced to death. Paid by the young lady who owns the saloon, and who despises Conoway, but believes in his innocence, Conoway's lawyer hires the famous gunman and tracker Mr. Silver (Garko) to prove his innocence. Silver soon doubts the town's people's believe that the two dead people were victims of a violent holdup, and starts to think that the robbery was just committed to draw the attention off the true reason of the murders. Price Of Death also has a subplot about the murder of a Mexican girl.
The idea of making a Spaghetti Western with the plot of a murder mystery is quite unusual and interesting, furthermore "Price Of Death" also has its humorous moments. The movie is also worth watching for its two stars, Gianni Garko (who is credited as John Garko in this movie), and Klaus Kinski, who is a great enrichment for this film, although his performance in "Price of death" is far from his best performances, and he actually doesn't say a lot. The answers to the movie's mysteries are unfortunately quite predictable, but the film is still fun and worth watching. As a Spaghetti Western fan, I recommend this to others, I can't guarantee that everybody is gonna like it, but I did. 6/10
