When Geoff, an orphaned stable boy (Chris Masterson), discovers Drake (voice of Robby Benson), the world's last living dragon, he realizes that his dream of becoming a knight in shining armor can now come true. Together, they soon face challenges that turn them into heroes. But caught up in the excitement of their new lives, Geoff and Drake fail to see the hidden dangers that surround them. An orphaned stable boy befriends with a young dragon named Drake and with the help of others help him learn how to fly and fight and protect himself from a ruthless knight. As a lover of the origional,this came to me as a real treat. The story is obviously aimed more at a younger audience, but the effects and locations do the classic justice,with the added comedy, this is a superb family film. The voice of Robby Benson, as the young Drake has hints of Sean Connery, and Chris Masterton is great as the naive boy wishing to become a knight. The Bowenesque Osric, played with relish by Harry van Gorkum, starts out as a noble ally, but we soon discover his alternative motives...don't want to give them away here, but van Gorkum is an actor to watch out for. Overall a noble attempt at the origional epic, rent it with your kids, or mates and have a good time. I'm sure everyone who loved the first Dragonheart were most taken by the breathtaking presence of Draco, the consequence of some very successful work on the part of his animators. The first appearance of his successor in this film is bound to be a bit of a shock, because the animation is not the equal of Draco. That being said, everything else about Dragonheart II is equal to the first. It's a clever and very original story with a great cast and even our dragon has a lot of personality despite the limited graphics.
