Jason and Alexandra 'Alex', a close couple, lose their sail yacht in a storm and are grateful to get picked up by Captain Jim Bigelow's commercial carrier. Suspicious about the rough treatment and injections given by ship's doctor Gerbac which make the strong man faint, and realizing the ship is improbably empty and the radio not broken as the crew claims, Jason starts snooping around and finds human bodies on meat hooks, but even Alex thinks he's just hallucinating. Alas while sane Jason is restrained for his 'paranoia', the real madmen are the doc's genetic experiment outfit, who abuse their human captives as live incubators for a giant spider's eggs...
sure, its not the best but its decent. It opens up pretty good but then gets sort of slow with all the stuff happening to the guy whose name I cant remember. Once you see what is going on on the ship it gets pretty entertaining. The acting wasn't too great nor was the cgi but it was entertaining.
If you want to watch a monster movie with good acting and creepy creatures then you'll have to look elsewhere. I think only the mad doctor was doing good (He was believable). You cant only watch the ending for entertainment, you'll have to watch the whole thing to understand the end. See it, don't love it.
Getting stranded at sea, a couple are rescued by a large cargo ship run by a demented scientist to test experiments regarding a gigantic spider and must get away before the creatures overrun the ship and everyone on-board.
This ended up being quite enjoyable and entertaining as a cheesy creature feature. One of the best aspects here is the film's cheesy nature, transporting a 50's style monster movie out into the sea and away from land, making for a new and innovative feel that gives this some nice moments. This here is further compounded by the mystery angle in the beginning with the mysterious injections, secretive behavior about the ship and its contents and rude treatment to them despite an air of hospitality offered make it inviting through the slow pace, and when brought along by the curious inability to heal despite all these solutions to the contrary really create a pretty intriguing air about the slow-going nature here. Things start picking up with the dream of being wheeled through the bowels of the ship on a gurney, which really sets the film going on the paranoia thread that turns the second half into even more fun as there's the demented fun of his capture down in the basement as he gets impregnated and is later forced to watch the culmination of their plans b showing the erupting spider from the woman's body. Naturally, this all comes up to the film's cheesy best is the final rampage through the ship when the spiders are loose with tons of action involving their crawling free against the crew which brings up plenty of fine gore in the numerous kills here, and the fact that the spiders are everywhere on the ship allows for a lot of fun in the escape attempts and battle tactics against the creatures down in the cargo hold and up on-deck. This even has an overall rather fine feel with a bit of suspense in the stalking as well as a nerve-tingling walk through a spider-web-riddled hallway without any armaments for protection in a highlight sequence. There's another good part here in its use of realistic prop spiders as well, making for a nice look where they're menacing and convincing which is all more than enough here to overcome the few flaws within this. The biggest issue is the slow-paced first half which doesn't really do much here. By keeping it centered on the mystery of what's going on with the crew and different tactics, there's not much room here for spider attacks throughout here by utilizing this nature. As well, there's the lame and rather unnecessary romance angle that really hampers the pace within this by being oblivious about it alongside the boring pace. The other flaw here is the film's really troubling areas that shouldn't be. Considering the sources, the opening abduction is simply lame and laughable when it shouldn't be so, while the CGI is a bit distracting. There's some detracting cheese here due to this, but it's not enough to dissuade this from being quite entertaining.
