A posse of crooked cops, malevolent gangsters and a horde of walking dead are the centre point of this gruesome, tight, action packed, claustrophobic tale of retribution and escape. Penned like animals, on the top floor of a deserted high-rise block, these two opposing gangs find that they are not alone in the lair of bloodthirsty corridors of death. Joining forces to survive, they must reach ground level together or perish. Loaded with a bad ass attitude, guns, axes and extremely creative hand-to-hand combat sequences that project the fears and paranoia that are the fighting forces behind the need to survive, when caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
When detective Mathias Rivoallan is found murdered by the gang led by the Nigerian Markudi, detectives Jimenez, Aurore, Ouessem and Tony decide to revenge the death of his friend. The vigilantes plot bloodshed, executing Markudi, his brother Bola (Doudou Masta) and the other gangsters in the abandoned building where they are gathered. However, things go wrong when the watchman arrives and the violent gang subdues the quartet and tortures them. Meanwhile, the lookouts of the gang hear explosions, sirens and the weird sound of the rabble.
An above average zombie film with a decent plot. If one enjoys zombie films, give this one a try. "The Horde" contains all the elements of George Romero's best zombie films (and if you're a fan of zombie films, there's no point in listing Romero's classics). On the other hand, this is why I didn't give the film a higher score, because Romero's done it all before. Oh, well, Let the heads roll, and the blood flow!!
There is little i can add to the reviews already on IMDb.. Besides being one of the best films i have seen, as yet, if only a little limited in scope (killing zombies non-stop), if you have never seen a modern zombie film, this is the one. How on earth did i miss this gem, that shows up to Quentin Tarantino, George Romero of latter days, and any filmmaker who has ever made or will ever make a film about violence towards zombies. And boy, these zombies do take a beating.
The into is weird, great acting and an absolutely exceptional first 10 minutes, then it seems the better paid actors called time and the zombie slaughter commences; OK so that was a choice the director was free to make. And the action is seriously brutal, nothing in film today comes close. The film is .. vacant, in places; Not much else besides a lot of violence towards a lot of zombies. No message, no glimmer of hope, just a lot of bullets and a lot of dead people. Do we want this, in a zombie film ?
Dawn of the Dead was in no way similar to this film, and the allegory has disappeared, yet i do think that this is what audiences want from this genere. Not a big zombie fan myself (maybe because the last .. 15? zombie films were crap), but if you ever wanted to engorge in a visual gorefest then grab La Horde and be done with it.
I wonder what would happen if the people at P.E.T.Z. (people for the ethical treatment of zombies) ever got a hold of this film.
Deserves a 9, would have been a 10 if not for the fact that it's such a niche market film - you really have to be in it only for the violence against zombies to like it, and i'm not sure so many of us are. At least not as much as it's needed to enjoy fully La Horde.

This zombie flick has only been released in a cut version in France, neither the DVD nor the Blu-ray contain the Uncut Version. Right at the beginning three long scenes featuring the character of Jimenez were left out: two on the cemetery and the following one in the alley showing Jimenez beating up a guy. There's no real explanation for deleting this scenes but they can be seen in the bonus material of the French DVD/BD. 646f9e108c
