The film follows underworld don Vincent Gomas (Mohanlal) and his rivalry against the Kerala Home minister N. Krishnadas (Ratheesh).
One of the best movies of MohanLal.The racy script and hard hitting dialogue went a long way in making the movie a Blockbuster.Highly Successful at the box office, this was Mohanlal's early breakthrough role and considered to be his all time favorite by his fans.The film became such a huge hit that Mohanlal turned into a superstar overnight.The dialogue in the film is such a hit that still people people repeat it time after time after time."My Phone No is 2255", this dialogue is the most used by mimicry artist all over Kerala still today.. That was the impact of this film which produced Malayalam film industry a superstar of never seen stature.
Rajavinte Makan is about the feud between a corrupt moralistic politician (Ratheesh) and an underworld don with a heart of gold (Mohanlal). I was amused to find the fake moralist politician expounding about how liquor bars must be built far away from temples, churches and schools. And how this could be be made into a political issue. Thirty years later, liquor bars are still a matter of much debate and controversy in Kerala and India. Unfortunately, some things never change I guess.
For a film that was made in 1986, Rajavinte Makan does have some really good hands on action scenes. The plump Mohanlal was quiet adept at jumping off buildings like in this film and Irupathaam Nootandu. The background score was also very catchy. Suresh Gopi and Mohan Jose play Mohanlal's sidekicks. And they take part in a great action scene themselves, towards the very end of the film.
Some of the dialogs are classics and if Vincent Gomez had not died at the end of the film, there would almost certainly have been a sequel.
