Storyline: This is easy, Bowser kidnaps the Princess. So Mario has to go through 6 different worlds which have 6 different galaxies which have multiple levels in them to collect stars to power this observatory type thing. That is how every Mario game plays out more or less. The levels are creative yet simplistic at the same time, the power ups and main galaxy boss fights leave a lot to be desired sadly, mainly because the big galaxy boss fights are generally easier than the smaller world boss fights which can range from easy to annoyingly hard. The power ups created for this game are generally pointless for the main part, an example would be the spring power-up which allows you to bounce higher than Mario can jump. This would be good, but most of the time when you're given the power up, the ledge you're trying to reach can be reached by using a backflip followed by a wall jump. Similar with the BeeMario, but not generally to that extent because he can climb on honey patches. The only power up I've actually enjoyed has been Ice-Mario who can basically be Iceman from the X-Men by creating frozen planforms to ice skate on. The level stars can range from creative to downright simple and boring. Luigi appears in the game but does noting at all apart from need saving for the rest of the game, he has stars and has gone through god knows what to get them, but still needs saving by his older brother. There are also comets that come by and offer new challenges, this and the Luigi levels are just mechanics to make your revisit old levels and old galaxies once you have completed them. Overall Feel: You cannot skip the cutscenes, this is one thing with really gets on my nerves. Generally I like to watch cutscenes, but thats only to gasp a storyline, Mario games have a repeated storyline so there is no need for cutscenes. The camera angles and artificial gravity will either work great for you, or they will be your worst enemies. If you are on a small planetary body and have to do lots of running and jumping, they will be the most annoying things in the game. Not overly fond of the three life system, mainly because the camera always seems to have it in for me when I'm onto my last segment of health, this can be changed with the extra life mushroom which gives you 3 extras, but depending on level they run out quick. The fact that it's on the Nintendo Wii make me even less fond of it, mainly because I do not like motion controllers like the Wii remote as Sod's Law always applies to me and game with motion controllers. An example would be the time it took me 5 whole minutes to create a new save file because the bloody star pointer wouldn't go where I wanted it to. I am not sure if they had them in SuperMario World, but they have introduced a new mechanic of paying in star pieces to advance through a level, generally I have a fair amount of disdain for these mechanics as they remind me of the old Spryo games with Moneybags wanting obscene amounts of crystals to advance in a level. But in saying that, coins have taken a bit of a back seat in this game as star bits are what you're striving for as they allow you to unlock new levels to get additional stars. The game feels very similar to that of Super Mario 64, mainly due to the control being very similar and the camera angles being just as bad at times. But not to say it is a bad game, the graphics have improved vastly over the generations, sadly the camera angles haven't. There are a few levels which require nothing but using the motion controller, this is good in theory but get extremely aggravating if you have a not so responsive controller like myself. It is a good game overall, but it is not as enjoyable a previous 3D Mario games
Super Mario Galaxy is one of the Mario games that had it's moments, the game's plot, camera, gameplay and stages are clearly awesome and playable, the Challenges are fun and hard for the hardcore fans, With 6 worlds and over 100 playable levels there is no game like this, the game starts off like all the other Mario games, Peach gets kidnapped and Mario must save her from King Bowser.
The game also focuses on Rosalina, a Cosmo protector who helps Mario gain Power by help by his colleague Luma, who gives him Power under his hat. The levels are fun and creative for all ages, the cinematic cutscenes are awesome and has one of the best graphics in any Mario game, the book story that Rosalina reads is sad and beautiful.
Wow, the game really starts off well.
If Shigeru Miyamoto had made a game where everyone is playing Mario and he had the Power to spin-attack enemies, fly through stars and grab star bits, this is the game. The game almost everything, good controls, powerful camera and non-stop soundtrack, the bosses are amazing, even the final boss with Bowser.
Bowser Battles are the best battles in the game, they have easy weak spots, great music and has the same alleged Places every time, the ending cinematic was amazing and intense. Everyone even Bowser returned to the Mushroom Kingdom by a little help from Mario and Rosalina
