Gorion's ward, the protagonist of the first Baldur's Gate game, gains access to two new areas on the game's map. The first one is a very small coastal town called Ulgoth's Beard, located on the Sword Coast, the western shore of the continent of Faerun along the Sea of Swords. There, the ward and his party learn of Balduran, the legendary seafaring explorer and founder of Baldur's Gate, who disappeared long ago on one of his seafaring adventures. A shady character asks the ward to travel to an uncharted island, where Balduran might have ended up shipwrecked and died. Any personal artifacts of his would be priceless on the market and the person that were to discover what happened to him would be hailed as a legend. However, the island ends up being in a state of emergency. The overtly friendly locals claim that beasts from the forest are attacking their small town constantly and ask for the ward's help. However, the island holds a dark secret. Ulgoth's Beard offers a few more much shorter quests, like a trip to an island ice prison maze to recover a certain belonging of the town's chief. The other new major location is Durlag's Tower, one of the toughest areas in the game. The tower has several levels and was once owned by Durlag, a proud and rich warrior dwarf, who in time grew paranoid and set multiple deadly traps all over his keep. The abandoned tower is now the favorite deathtrap of foolhardy explorers. The ward enters in either on his/her own or in search of a missing youngster from Ulgoth's Beard, who went with a party of adventurers to explore the tower's lowest level in search of treasure and hasn't been heard from since. Once there, the ward slowly pieces together the history of the tower as well as the reasons behind Durlag's eventual fall into madness and realizes that there is indeed something very wrong with the place. Maybe Durlag wasn't just the victim of his own paranoid demented mind after all. However, only the toughest of parties will get to the bottom of things and find out what's really down there on the lowest level of the keep and what exactly happened to the boy.
Expension pack for 'Baldur's Gate'. The two new areas are the small town of Ulgoth's Beard, where you learn of the legend of Balduran, and a tough-as-nails area called Durlag's Tower, a death-trap for foolish adventurers.
This game is a little expansion to the 1st Baldurs Gate and i have got to say it isn't really much of a change. Its got a couple of small quests but i never wasted my time on it. But good if you want to reach a decent level for the further expansion BG2. But you get to go to durlags tower to get some decent loot,ulgoths beard to do quests there and werewolves island. i found that i didn't really pay much attention to the new sub quests but i just paid attention to the better leveling up thanks to being able to get 128 000 k. but i recommend it for anyone who wants to play BG through and thorough so its a *** stars from me and 1 good thing about it is that its cheap :D
I found this small expansion very entertaining even if it is more of a small addition to the original Baldur's Gate than an expansion. Within its limits I give it almost the highest points, because Bioware has added some incredible dialogues, interesting new areas and enemies. With The Tales of the Sword Coast Bioware could have added some more in my opinion which is why I don't give the highest points.
I gave a warning of some spoilers because of some info from the game: (more because it is required than because of some great spoiler).
There are some limits; this expansion adds some more to the original game, but does not add a different ending to the game, it's more of way to gather extra points and exploring some new areas and then go back to where you left for the Ulgoth's Beard Area.
The last enemy in the first quest has some interesting dialogue changes depending on how you answer him. There could have been an option for a different outcome of this quest which is one more reason to reduce the score.
Some other limits in the outcomes of the different quests reduce the overall score, even if I had quite a time with the greater part of this game.
