jew's harp khomus jaw

The Jaw Harp is a small traditional rhythmic instrument. The musician and investigator of ethnocultures Phons Bakx is the only Jew's harp professional in the Netherlands. In 1992 he published a book on the Jew's harp ”The Thought Dispeller”. Enno Meijers is Phons Bakx's student. In the presented pieces Phons Bakx works with the atmospheres that are created by the harmony of differently tuned Jew's harps.
Most of the instruments I learned about while exploring timbre and overtones, I have never seen or learnt to play. There are some exceptions: I have been fiddling around with the Vietnamese dan bau (a special kind of monochord or one-stringed zither found only in Vietnam), the didgeridoo (yedaki in one of the indigenous terms), the igil or horse-head fiddle from Tuva, gongs, singing bowls and musical bows and mouth bows of the Xhosa.
A khomusist improviser can exactly repeat the sounds of spring snow drips, fast horses' clatter exciting the participants of the summer holiday Ysyakh, cuckoo informing about the beginning of the anticipated summer, drum rolling of a woodpecker one quiet autumn morning, whistle of the wind walking over the boundless snow tundra space.
In case you are going to play together with other instruments that are tuned, choose a jews harp tuned up to the others (in this case this question would not be asked). If you do not have such an intention or you do not know what notes are, just do not pay attention to note mark or take an untuned jews harp (those are marked as no note”). Notes are not a sign of quality, one note cannot be better than another one.
Play the Jews Harp - instant skills for non musicians. Now slide your teeth out to the open end of the bars so there is a space between the corner of your mouth and the end of the bars. This will make the sound a lot louder. 1) Jew's harps were originally disseminated in England by Jewish peddlers, who carried them in their packs along with dozens of other household items sold door to door.
A jaw harp consists of two parts. There's a frame held inside the mouth and a tongue” piece that is plucked outside the mouth by the musician's finger. Although this might sound easy, there are many techniques used in playing the instrument and some require a good deal of practice to master.
