St. Simon the Zealot

In Hebrew, Simon’s Christian name means God has answered. He is also known as the zealot since the of his religious zeal within the Hebrew religion. Not much more is known about Simon except the fact that he is listed as one of the 12 Apostles while in the Gospels.

Pious tradition maintains that he preached in Egypt as well as Mesopotamia in addition to was martyred in Persia while in the first century by being sawed in half. He’s often pictured holding a lumberjack’s saw as his symbol.
