What more can be said about the nude beach situation at San Onofre ? The news has been covered a thousand times in blogs and news articles from all over the world. The net is full of narratives about the San Onofre nudity prohibition of 2008 (which didn't really take enforced effect until the summer of 2010 - the worst summer of my life, which I Will get back to). A lot more.
For those who aren't comfortable with San Onofre, or the scenario with the bare beach there, I've supplied some links at the end of this post that I highly suggest checking out. The public is dealt an injustice there, one that needs considerably more media attention than it is received, and it is been my passion since the nudity prohibition to bring this situation to the general public's curiosity.
Here is an extremely brief recap: A small smattering of non-elected park rangers and bureaucrats have essentially taken away the right of "The People" to skinny dip at the strand in California. Every naked beach in California, that lives on State Park land, is affected. The folks who did this are apparently unaccountable to the general public, and it was done with zero public input or outcry. They even used a technicality to achieve their goal in appeals court, and they used your tax money to get it done.

Independent in the nudity-prohibition, is the implication of what can be achieved, behind "The People's" backs, by the quantity of power that's vested in such a little group of non-elected state workers. Nudity has been prohibited. Alcohol continues to be prohibited. Exactly what will be next? What prohibition will the next private dislike or personal-moral-code visit upon us? The chances are staggering.

It's been several months since I've written anything about San Onofre. Truthfully, I've felt pretty jaded, even bitter, about the nudity ban, and the California State Parks system's treatment of naturists. So, when I was invited to write another post about San Onofre, I was reluctant to take - I wanted to, but I did not. I dreaded the vibe. Bringing the thoughts, and pain of it back to the vanguard.. I just was not sure if I was prepared to go there. As you can see, I determined that facing the obligation of sharing this life-altering injustice, and continuing to sp read the word, trumped my own negative emotions.
I am not the only individual who feels hurt about San Onofre, there are many. I have been a "regular" at San Onofre's nude beach - which we consult with as Trail 6, despite the fact that it's quite a distance from the valid Trail 6 trail - for many years. I am also the creator and moderator of the Friends of San Onofre Beach (Official) Facebook group, so I can say with 100% conviction that everybody who has ever appreciated a playa moment at Trail 6, even if it was many years ago, even if they remained clothed, desires the unclothed beach back.
Why do we need it back so lousy? Why not just give up, and go to Blacks? Well, as I said, ALL Cal State Park Beaches are affected by the nudity ban. Blacks is part of Torrey Pines State Park. It's presently not under fire, but it is obvious that Blacks is living on borrowed time. Furthermore, why should all the Los Angeles and Orange County people need to drive all the way to San Diego, when we have a perfectly great unclothed beach at San Onofre?
Okay, perhaps we should just discontinue our bitching and wear clothes to the plage. The people that are accountable for the nudity ban believe that is a sensible choice. They feel that being bare at a plage, even one as remote as

Trail 6, should be a crime, and they have now made it thus. For us bare beach lovers, however, wearing clothing is most certainly not a wise decision. For over thirty years we have all been enjoying the unclothed beach at San Onofre in perfect harmony with the law, the rangers, the average man or woman, the military and nature.
Why is the naked beach at San Onofre so "Cherished", you might inquire?
First, you need to recognize there are no other nude beaches in all of Southern California's Ventura, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Factor in the residents of the inland counties of Riverside and San Bernardino, you might have a playa-using population base of almost eighteen million individuals. That amount comprises a hell of a lot of naturists and unclothed beach supporters, and the bare beach goers from that huge population base have been relying on San Onofre's unclothed beach as their only naked beach, within a realistic traveling distance for regular weekend naked beach visits.
Second, Location location location! The distant, hike-in, dead-end, out-of-the-limelight location of San Onofre's Trail 6 (T6) unclothed beach make it THE perfect nude beach location.

Other things which make San Onofre's unclothed beach so unique and specific are: great surf, warm summer water, innocent cliff & oilrig-free ocean scenery, warm friendly people, camping, and a close proximity to the really trendy town of San Clemente - where lots of San Onofre visitors like to hang out and party in the evening after a plage day.
I have barely touched on the folks, and of course the vibe. You get to be a pretty tight-knit group of fun loving unclothed beach friends when you have been calling T6 your "home far from home" for as long as many of the regulars have. Some people have literally grown up there. Everyone is having an enjoyable time every time you see them. The nudies at T6 have become a big sand family, surfing together, playing volleyball, frisbee, beach golf, sunning, camping, BBQ's, and simply hanging out with pals.
San Onofre wasn't simply a naked beach, it was a lifestyle. The finest lifestyle most of us regulars could ever conceive of. Our lives far from the sand were centered around our life at the sand. Certainly most of us also visit nude resorts and hotsprings, but it is the playa we all crave. And you'd be hard pressed to find a better bunch of people.
I 've a lot of amazing memories of T6, from world class sundown, to stealing credit for assembling the sand course over the rocks from my buddy.
