Why is Certification so Important for a Project Management Career?
Organization’s perspective
From an organizational point of view, if you look at Mc. Kinsey's report and several other reports from big board giants will see that roughly 60% of top managers say project management is a certification, project management is a skill set they want to trust. This is one of their top three priorities if we also talk about the organization's goals that they have thought for future and current scenarios.
Is Certification Important?
Looking at all these reports, all these investigations, a professional question may come to mind. Is certification very important? Is certification necessary? I know project management, I have successfully delivered project management projects. I have worked in this field for so many years, so why do I need certification? I know how to make plans. To answer this question, just think about what project management is. What are these different certifications talking about, what are these different standards talking about?
The value of Certification
Essentially, project management is something that tells us that it is a structured way of doing a project. They studied various projects around the world, in various industries, and proposed certain methods and standards, certain processes in a step-by-step guide. What, if followed, will help us to better structure the project, will help us to execute it better, will help us to control, will help us to deliver results successfully. Remember that project management certification, the project management skill set does not mean that you will complete your projects 100% successfully. But these certifications, these standards make the possibilities of delivering a project much more favorable than following an ad hoc process. Follow a standard process and this process is not developed by whims and fantasies. It was developed after an exhaustive study of failed projects, the reasons for its failure. Some projects have become very successful, why they have been successful, what are the things that people have followed and are constantly evolving. They constantly meet the needs of the economy and the needs of today's businesses. Therefore, project management is an area that helps us understand this structured approach. So why is certification necessary?
Is it for me?
I check books, magazines or standards on project management and that's enough, but why is certification important? To answer this question, especially as an individual, certification is something that is successful. It shows the employer, it shows people that I have accomplished something. It is a stamp on your CV that has gone through a rigorous process, knows all the standards, knows all the processes that add value to project management and how you carry out projects. In the end, you know how to carry out a project successfully and efficiently. As an individual, if you look at job sites and look for jobs in project management, you will find that one of the mandatory things is a certification requirement.
