How to prepare a dissertation?

A candidate dissertation is always a qualification work. You defend a job in which you show your qualifications. This does not have to be some breakthrough direction in science, practice. But sometimes this concept - qualification work - is somehow simplified. It is believed that if you wrote several formulas or 150 pages of reasoning, the qualification work is ready and you can go to defend it. However, it is not. In any case, the Ph.D. thesis should contain at least a new look at some well-known statements of problems or some new solutions. Let us now turn to a very important component of the dissertation writing process. Any dissertation is one, two, or even several tasks. The question is:

Who should set the tasks and how? This is a crucial issue. Graduate students and masters themselves are not able to set tasks, this is a normal phenomenon, one should not be surprised at this and worry about it. The ability to set goals well always comes with experience. To be able to set goals well, you need to work hard. Therefore, we are faced with two problems here: the choice of the supervisor and the choice of the topic of the dissertation.

What is the task in this situation? As I understand it, the task should clearly define what is given and what we intend to receive, and the problem usually knows the ways to solve it and the apparatus that we use. That is, the task is always specific, as in the school curriculum. An example is, say, data analysis using linear regression. You have a device, you solve a problem and get something. Another example, you have input, you have a model that describes the behavior of participants, you need to find first-order conditions. This is the task.

The problem is a little different. It is known what is given, but what we get is far from known. Moreover, apparatus and equipment are often unknown. They have to invent a problem or modify some existing ones. Where the problems come from and how they are solved, many books have been written on this topic. 

There should be an element of fundamentality in the work, do not just do technical work, substitute values, substitute parameters, the computer calculated, received some conclusions. You see, there must be some new look at the problem, this is not necessarily some kind of breakthrough in science, but at least something new must be. 

Planning effort and time.

Problem-solving is always a waste of time. And graduate students often can not do science, need free days. When agreeing with the employer, be sure to agree on free days, at least one day a week, so that you have free days, and also Saturday and Sunday. Today you are investing in yourself. The supervisor can help by indicating which major journals to read, which major articles in the field you need to know. It is very important that when you read, you must create for yourself a certain image of the region, this image of the region is not created simply by listing the read works, you need a certain look.

The structure of the dissertation. Firstly, never write an autobiography, do not write how you came to the results, you should set forth a theory, not how you came to this.

Now, the abstract. The abstract repeats the structure of the dissertation, everything should be more succinct, the only feature that I do not understand in my abstracts is why it is impossible to refer to other people's works. In my opinion, this is also a requirement of the Higher Attestation Commission, but I never understood this. If you get results that develop the work of other people, why not refer to these works.

Opponents and lead the organization. Typically, the leader advises whom to choose an opponent.
