Looking Into The Different Standards of A Small Gantry Crane

There are several different standards followed in the general designing and making of a Small Gantry Crane. If you are buying one for your factory for the first time, you will be better off if you are knowledgeable about these standards. As for the general design of these cranes, the different standards depend on the different applications of the cranes. These are workstation bridge cranes, gantry cranes, and jib cranes. However, for all different types of cranes the OSHA standard is to be maintained. Along with that, the manufacturers must also follow the guidelines of ANSI, AWS, and MMA or CMAA.

The fabrication standards

Just as the manufacturers of the Small Gantry Crane must ensure that the design factor allows 25% for impact on and 15% of the total load bearing capacity of the crane to the weight of the hoist, they must also follow a specific standard for the fabrication process as well. This is according to the guideline set for welding by the American Welding Society or AWS. This standard is different for steel and aluminum. These machines are called the CWF or AWS Certified Welding Fabricator machines. This certification means that the machine meets all AWS requirements such as annual calibration of welding machines and visual inspections of loadbearing parts.

The material standards

The Small Gantry Crane, especially the one that is built with aluminum material, needs to follow the material standards as laid down by the ASTM International specification. Ideally, these cranes should be built with 6061-T6 aluminum alloy material. As for the gantry cranes made from steel material there are different standards to follow by the manufacturers. These different standards are applicable for different parts of the crane. For example, the structural shape should follow the ASTM A-36 standard while the pipes should follow the ASTM A-53 standard. As for the square and rectangular tubing it is ASTM A-500 standard to follow.

The surface preparation and painting standards

Similarly, there are specific guidelines and standards to follow for preparing the surface of the Small Gantry Crane as well. There are also rules to follow for painting the surface even. The manufacturers must adhere to the standards formulated by the Society for Protective Coatings or SSPC for the surface preparation process of all cranes. As for preparing the surface for painting, before the actual painting process the manufacturers must first debur and descale the surface. Power tools are used for this that comes with wire wheels and sanding discs. It must be then washed with a high-pressure degreaser solution at high temperature that is biodegradable as well.

The finishing processes

All the parts that are prepared for painting are now wiped clean. It is then let to dry before the actual painting process starts. While painting, the manufacturers must ensure that the surfaces of all components are coated with a paint that has quick drying ability, Ideally, a semi-gloss enamel is used to a minimum of 2 to 3 mils dry-film thickness. The finishing coat is then applied with electrostatic, hot and airless spray paint system and is cured at normal temperature. For more information visit here: EC & MW, Inc.
