The Academy Awards, also called only the Oscars, are prestigious awards, largely for technical and artistic merit in the film market. They are regarded as one of the biggest and most significant awards in today's entertainment industry. More often than not, the movie that wins the Oscar is a box office hit, and consequently receives a huge monetary reward. However, these accolades are often marred with accusations of media bias, politics, as well as being"hijacked" by the Hollywood elite. Needless to say, the addition of comedies from the Oscar's does nothing to help the perception of corruption in Hollywood. Even the Oscars, through their long history, have constantly rewarded films with major awards. Nobody ever wins an Oscar for a movie they did not like. The current situation regarding the Oscar's and politics has little to do with artistic merit and what to do with the quality of movies generally.
