What is a N95 mask fit test?

According to OSHA, a N95 mask fit test is the seal between the N95 mask’s, or respirator's, face piece and your face. This tests generally takes 15-20 minutes to complete, and this test should be performed when the have used this mask at least annually. The aim of N95 mask fit testing is to assure that the mask fits properly so that air cannot leak into the mask and hazardous substances are kept outside mask.

This test should be conducted using the same procedure that the worker use on the job. If you are doing testing with another mask it will not assure proper protection. The model of mask that is used for the test, if it does not fit properly, another model or style or size of mask must be tested until one that fits properly has been identified.

It’s the duty of the employers to provide staff with a reasonable selection of sizes and models pf masks. When the respiratory mask fit testing is completed the person better know which mask suits or fits best. It can be considered an easy way to replace mask with another mask with appropriate fit.
