Corporal punishment is still in use in many American schools. This should come as no surprise to parents who have witnessed how hard-core corporal punishment has made children act. Corporal punishment by parents can be just as bad as corporal punishment by teachers in many cases. Parents need to take a serious look at the corporal punishment in schools they have to choose between.

One of the biggest problems with corporal punishment is that it often instills fear. Some parents fear that their children will be picked on and that other children will tease them. These fears can be the basis for much of the negative behavior in many schools today. Parents also may punish children who fail to do as they say, even if that means bruises on a child's face or body. In one Colorado school district, teachers had to receive a written reprimand for hitting a student. Parents must first see any written reprimand and then can proceed to punish their child.

A corporal punishment by teachers is one of the things that is most debated. Parents have different views about corporal punishment. An Indiana mother talked about the difference between spanking a child and corporal punishment in a forum. She said that a child needs to know that there is a time and place for everything.

"Spanking a child doesn't teach the child self discipline. Spanking a child doesn't teach the child to deal with conflict in a mature way. I even believe that corporal punishment is not right because it hurts. It can cause bruising and pain and the child doesn't feel good about him or herself afterwards."

Some people agree that spanking can be a very effective tool in removing inappropriate behaviors in children. However, others believe that spanking can teach children to be physically aggressive towards other children. Corporal punishment by parents can lead to further problems as they might hit their own children. When children hit each other, they are likely to do the same thing to another child and this can create more problems in the home.

The debate between corporal punishment and educating children on appropriate behavior continues. There are some who think that the problem of corporal punishment with schools is overblown. One mom complained that there was hardly any corporal punishment in the schools and that when she asked for a consequence, her request was always granted. On the other hand, an Indiana elementary school principal explained that he felt that corporal punishment was necessary. He did not want to take the chance of getting his students in trouble with the school administration.

Even though Indiana has legalized corporal punishment, many states still enforce it. Students are often hit or spanked in public settings such as the classroom. Parents are also becoming more hesitant about expressing anger and frustrations to their children. In addition, some parents feel that it teaches their children that violence is acceptable.

Many people agree that corporal punishment in schools can be a failure. However, what is not discussed often is what happens to children when they receive corporal punishment. The question often arises is what effects will it have on them. It is important to note that studies have shown that physical punishment does not have a great effect on children. It may only serve to make children more aggressive.

According to research, children who were spanked were not as assertive as those who were not. They also tended to have low self-esteem. It has also been found that children who received corporal punishment were likely to repeat the behavior. Also, if they received corporal punishment at a young age, they would be more likely to repeat the behavior when adults punish them. Many parents do not realize that children learn by observing adults, and they believe that spanking their children will teach them what is appropriate.

The Indiana Education Association recommends against corporal punishment in schools. The organization suggests that parents use a firm but fair approach to correcting their child's behavior. They recommend that parents should give their child choices regarding what they can and cannot do. listen to this podcast should also provide structure and role models for their children. The organization suggests that a parent needs to show their child how to get in trouble and then offer options to correct their behavior.

The Indiana Education Association realizes that corporal punishment can work in certain situations. However, it has found that there are many negative impacts to this practice. The essay should have been informative enough. It should have highlighted that most of the time spanking can create more problem than it solves. It should have provided information on why parents should only use corporal punishment when absolutely necessary.
