joe's sauerkraut cucumbers pickled pasteurized

Trader Joe's is known for using pickled and cured vegetables in its recipes. It is one of the only places to buy 100% organic cucumbers. They have also developed a reputation as a purist in the frozen foods industry for only using the freshest, highest quality ingredients. That's why I love Trader Joe's so much. But did you know they make a soup called Raw Sauerkraut?

Traditionally pickled sauerkraut is made by fermenting cucumbers until the cucumbers are soft. The longer the fermentation is allowed to go on the thicker and stronger the taste will be. Once fermented, it is cooled and then deep-fried. Traditionally, sauerkraut has been served with bread, but today it is served with a variety of different breads including wheat berries, raisins and even pita sandwiches! In fact, Trader Joe's describes their sauerkraut as a "light and fresh" yogurt-based dip that goes well with everything from Bagels to crackers and sandwiches.

who makes trader joe's sauerkraut Traditionally, pickled persian cucumbers are used to make a thick dressing for fish or poultry. But some cookbooks suggest making a light, tangy ketchup from fermented peeled cucumbers instead. Trader Joe's describes the recipe as a "taste of warm spices and crisp crunchy veggies" which sound wonderful. One could use the fermented pickled persian cucumbers in a similar way to make a delicious, light and tangy ketchup for sandwiches or an easy to make vinaigrette for salads.

Many people wonder how Trader Joe's is able to sell all of their sauerkraut without the addition of any preservatives. The answer is simple: they use a traditional pasteurized process which destroys any live or potential enzymes. The heat from the drying process sterilizes the ingredients. And, we all know that most store bought sauerkraut doesn't get this far.

Perhaps the best tasting thing you'll find at Trader Joe's is their Dulse range. Dulse is an interesting red fruit that comes from the Alston Island in Australia. It's a popular ingredient in pickled persian cucumbers and juices, and has even become a popular ingredient in some vegetarian cooking. You can find the Trader Joe's Dulse in a variety of flavors such as strawberry, raspberry, vanilla and coconut.

If you're not interested in buying pickled raw sauerkraut, you can order a Trader Joe's Dulse in a variety of delicious flavor combinations. One option includes it in a creamy caramel sauce along with candied pecans and prune jelly. Another option has it as a glazed baked potato. And yet another option has it as a mouthwatering stew with carrots and cauliflower, barley, mushrooms and artichokes. If you can find it in a store bought sauerkraut, you really can't go wrong!

For the most part, the quality you'll find in the Trader Joe's line of fermented pickles, including sauerkraut, is just about the same as you'll find at your average grocer. Occasionally, you'll run into a special offer such as the "Persian Cucumber," which is a pickled persian cucumber that has had the skin removed and then fermented in the vinegar. In addition to the more traditional fermented, Asian fermented vegetables, you can also find pickled persian cucumbers that are cored, instead of sliced, and have been fermented with brandy or apple cider vinegar.

When you shop at Trader Joe's, chances are you'll be able to find a wide range of pickled vegetable products. So whether you want pickled raw sauerkraut, pickled shiitake mushroom caps, pickled beet tops, pickled carrots, or any other pickled vegetable, you can find it at the grocery store or online. Or, if you prefer to buy it at a premium, you can purchase it in the refrigerated section of Trader Joe's.
