As a result of hours of consultation between law enforcement and animal control officers, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, ending an eventful 48-hour period that attracted attention throughout North Carolina.

To ensure fully removal of the glue from the cobra's body, we guided it into a red bucket and took it to a safe area.

WRAL's cameras caught the snake the previous day crawling onto the porch of a house on Sandringham Drive. In looking around, the hood of the vulture was visible.

Before moving in to capture the snake, Animal Control officers moved camera crews to the back.

Early Tuesday, a 911 call from that home sparked the search.

In Raleigh, North Carolina. Following hours of consultation and preparation by Raleigh police and animal control officers, a venomous zebra cobra was captured on a north Raleigh porch on Wednesday night, bowing out a nearly 48-hour ordeal that gained national attention.

To completely remove the glue from its body, the cobra was seated in a red bucket and transported to a safe location.

The snake was seen crawling onto a porch of a house on Sandringham Drive earlier in the day. A hood was visible wherever it turned its head.

Camera crews were moved back after the officers confirmed it was the snake before attempting to catch it.

The search was sparked by a 911 call from the same home early Tuesday.

Joan Nelson said she was relieved that the ordeal was over.

It makes me really happy and I feel much more secure, she said. Getting outside on my deck or stepping out on my deck gives me a sense of freedom. The snake, though, must have felt bad.

The snake, a zebra cobra, is extremely fast and can spit up to nine feet away, making a walk with the dog even scarier. The African Snakebite Institute cites the snake as extremely dangerous. It could cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.

Someone who is bitten by the poison of a cobra would feel pain, swelling, gastrointestinal irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. In the next few hours, a heavy fever would occur, as well as respiratory difficulty.

Salina Locke is an experienced veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, where she treats all types of pets.

Cobras of this species do not bite. Generally, they squirt their venom a lot and shoot straight for the eyes, she said.

Despite the risks associated with this snake, Locke does not recommend it as a pet.

People tend to get bitten most often when they're sleeping. Bite victims could be plagued with health problems for years, studies show.

In the afternoon of Tuesday, police searched a home in 6917 Chamonix Place, near the spot where the cobra was first spotted.

Four officers were dispatched to that home for an animal issue in March. On Monday and Tuesday, they returned after spotting the zebra cobra on a porch about a half mile away.

The records of the county show Rebecca and Keith Gifford live at the address. A Facebook account associated with Keith Gifford shows several photos of snakes that Christopher Gifford also owns.

His TikTok account has more than 460000 followers. He claims to have a zebra cobra seven feet long on one of his posts.
