Despite the consultation and preparation by animal control officers, the glue trap finally caught a venomous zebra cobra on the porch of a home in north Raleigh on Wednesday night, capping a 48-hour case involving North Carolina media.

Cobras in red buckets are guided into a safe location so the glue on their bodies can be removed.

The WRAL cameras captured the striped snake crawling out of the siding of a Sandringham Drive house, onto the front porch. Lifting its head, it was able to see its hood.

Officers from Animal Control moved the cameras back after confirming that it was the snake, trying to capture it before moving in.

An early morning 911 call from that same home prompted the search.

The ordeal is over at last, said neighbor Joan Nelson.

I feel much safer and I am really happy, she said. My deck and I have become more comfortable outside now. The snake, though, must have felt bad.

The snake, a zebra cobra, can spit up to 9 feet and is faster than most snakes, making even a morning walk with the dog scary. African Snakebite Institute has described the snake as very dangerous. It could cause a victim's nervous system to shut down.

An individual hit by the snake's poison would feel immediate pain, swelling, irritation, vomiting, and diarrhea. Afterward, a fever and breathing problems would result, possibly resulting in respiratory failure.

A veterinarian at Avian and Exotic Animal Care, Salina Locke, treats all sorts of animals there.

Cobras of this type are rarely known to bite. She said they are more likely to spray their venom . they are very precise and go straight for the eyes.

A pet of this snake is not recommended because of the risks, according to Locke.

In most cases, bites occur when people are sleeping. Bite victims may suffer health problems for years, research reveals.

In the late afternoon on Tuesday, police searched 6917 Chamonix Place, near the place where the snake was last spotted.

In March, the police visited that residence four times for an animal issue. Approximately half a mile away, they spotted the zebra cobra on a porch, prompting them to return on Monday and Tuesday.

The records of county government indicate that Keith and Rebecca Gifford reside at this address. There is a Facebook account for Keith Gifford that shows several photos of snakes that he claims are owned by his son, Christopher.

Christopher Gifford has 460000 followers on TikTok. His posts claim he has a 7-foot zebra cobra.
